China's been good to him, and they haven't been bad to his family (that we know of).

Probably seems that way because corruption + being the most powerful country in the world maginfies it.

There are probably some african countries that out-corrupt us.

Although, i think America maybe more corrupt than most people give us credit for, we're 'sneaky corrupt' whereas other countries are more corrupt out in the open.

but then you would be putting us in the same level of corruption as Russia, Afghanistan, and China, and that is hilarious.

I guess it depends on the context of his statement.

Plus, he's just being patriotic, just like most Americans are.

USA have the most prisoners of any country per capita on earth. I suppose that indicates a corruption problem to solve or police effectiveness about corrupt people.

I'm still reading but it looks like the main reason is prison sentence length. Ours are absurd.

Jail is good for business, and in a government by the corporations, for the corporations, you do what's good for business.

Being seen as tough on crime is good for politicians looking to be re elected, yet at the same time there has been a strong anti capital punishment movement.

The result is long mandatory minimums and many life sentences for crimes that should have warranted the death sentence.

Also we have been fighting a 'war on drugs' for quite a long time.

In the usa the freedom of choice is kinda vice versa when it comes to laws.

If someone steels, or rapes, or kills your family member, it should be the choice of the victim an or intermidiate family members who choose the punishment, not people who wasent effected by it...so in some ways the laws are like saying we can let our country do as they please, just as a spoiled kid instead of getting a whooping he only gets a mere time out. an Then nothing is learned and the process starts again and again.

Define 'corrupt.'

Do Somalians tell everyone about how they're the greatest country in the world? How their system is perfect and yay freedom and LOVE IT OR GET OUT.

Are violent warlords corrupt, or just...violent warlords?

I'd say we certainly lead in 'advertised cleanliness versus actual corruption' over most. I.e. our government is fucking corrupt, but most people don't know, don't care, or choose to ignore it. Same with the corporations that people grovel at the feet of. 'Thanks for your shitty products and shitty jobs! Yay!'

It's hard to even compare us to something like North Korea, where, yeah, the people in the country are a hell of a lot more misled; but those outside aren't exactly fooled. In comparison, the US is still seen as the 'land of the free' to many outside of it (even if they believe that we oppress other parts of the world).

Basically, 'most corrupt' is just stupid, silly statement that would need a goddamned book to even begin to properly explain the intricacies of.

Well Jackie Chan is a smart guy. He is making huge amount of money in China now so he is kissing up to the Chinese gov. and people.

But never the less, he is not far off. China and other "corrupt" countries do it the illegal/dumb way. In America, it is done the legal/smart way. Political lobby, Wall St.- Washington collusion...etc, America has the #1 GDP and the amount of $$ involved in all those games naturally tops the world. And America not only play those games within the country, the big multinational companies also play those games with governments and countries around the world. Read up on how Pharma, Agricultural business work with Washington to get the most out of third world countries.

Anyway, nothing wrong with playing tough to get the big bucks. That's how the power games are played around the world anyway. If China is has the #1 GDP and multinational companies around the world, they would have done the same thing.

While I agree there definite differences, this seems backwards to me.

America does it the sneaky, underhanded way. Rich corporations control a puppet government.

China does it the direct way. CHINA GOVERNMENT SAY, FUCK YOU! (is that racist? it's broken English when I read it in my head).

Merriam and Webster say we fit the definition of 'corrupt' a lot better.

I find it amazing that criticizing the USA is looked down upon so. Denial is not a river in Egypt.

And Tiger lover. There's a movie with both of them in it. I can't remember if they fight though.

Is this in reference to the OP? That's just plain ridiculous. Chan's an ass. He could have made any number of legitimate, and very bad complaints about the USA, but he decided to go with bullshit. You can't take him seriously.

Yes. Chan did what any one of us would do in an interview like that. We would be patriotic Americans. He's patriotic and Chinese. All power to him. Sorry but certain countries around the world are very patriotic and that's ok as long as they don't go around blowing shit up.

With respect to the actual corruption he's probably technically wrong, since like I said above I'm not even sure how you would quantify the "most" corrupt, but yes the USA is a very corrupt country.

It's hard to blame him for criticizing the US and defending China when he's on a Chinese TV show and would probably be exiled or his family shot for not upholding the official Party stance.

The other thing is that he seems to be implying that the real problem with the US is that our TRAJECTORY of corruption is going the wrong way. And on that, maybe he's right. Then again, maybe he's wrong there too. Are we more corrupt now than we used to be? I don't know—people like to talk about how everything's getting worse all the time, but things were probably just as bad 10, 20, 30 years ago too.
