I have been on accutane 2 different times. The first time (was 16) it cleared alot of my acne from my face, shoulders, chest, and back. It felt amazing not to deal with those painful pimples and makes you appreciate that one can have clear skin. About a year later (17) my acne came back but much less severe and I went on it one last time and I've been off it nearly 6 months (18 almost 19 now) and I have almost 0 pimples except maybe 1 here and there at times. It dries you skin out a lot, need to moisturize your face everyday and anytime if you go swimming or in the shower. Lip balm is a necessity ( apply it several times a day) unless u like your lips to look like they are shredded meat. Would I do it again, yes, for severe acne is a god send. Wonderful stuff, just respect it.

Took this last year. True, you'll get very dry skin. Get some good face moisturizer and lotion and lip ointment (Lots of it). You'll also experience bad night vision so be careful when you drive at night. They speak of depression but I think that mostly happens with the younger crowd as they're still trying to fit in with their peers. I took it for about four months or so and now I rarely get a pimple. Maybe once every few months or so but never do I actually have a breakout. Now I don't have to worry about putting on any Clearasil or the like ever. Nor do I need to wash my face before bed. It's truly the best stuff out there for acne.

Also, it's required by law that you have blood work done once a month, right before your follow up appointment. You also need to bring the card you're issued to your appointment and to get your prescription. You're also required to use two forms of birth control if you're having sex. If you do indeed get a woman pregnant I would highly advise her to have an abortion as the birth defect rate is very high. Also, do not use any OTC type acne medications while using accutane as it will further dry out your skin. Your acne will flare up and may get worse for a month or so but that's normal. As soon as you know it, your skin will be clear. As one person said before, almost overnight.

I wonder how the world was able to survive without Accutane?

Seriously, wash your face and deal with acne like the generations before you. Is it really worth all of the possible side effects?

The answer to your question, for people with bad acne, it's most definitely worth it. Washing my face twice a day, using Benzoyl Peroxide, Differin, Clindomyacin, etc worked for a bit but then my body would adapt to the drugs then they no longer worked. Accutane, though harsh, worked excellent for me.

All this for a couple of a red spots on your face? I think the point needs to be stressed that this is probably not necessary unless you have pimples growing on pimples. There are hoops to jump through for a reason- this really is for severe cases. Don't take it just because Prom is coming up and you have a few zits.

If you have bad acne, it is 100% worth it. Despite taking excellent care of my face (regular washing, prescription medications, etc.) I still had terrible acne--painful cysts that were leaving scars. After 4 months of Accutane, I was nearly pimple free (and have been for 8 years).

Obviously.

In my case, I had severe cystic acne with big bulges under my skin that if I didn't get them taken care of, it would lead to drastic scarring. A dermatologist (the only people that can prescribe the treatment I think) wouldn't even prescribe Accutane for someone if he didn't think it was a necessity.

Y'know, Acne doesn't always just mean "a couple little red bumps from time to time as you go through puberty, o noes." People who've never struggled with severe acne don't seem to understand that.

I had two rounds of it. The first round, I got for free (actually got paid to take it) because they were running some bone density tests (it didn't effect mine at all). Free bloodwork and drugs, and got paid couple hundred. Reddish skin, chapstick (sometimes I had to call in the good stuff, jar of Vaseline) to fight the lip dryness. Cleared it all up for about 1-2 years, then I needed a second round. That really got rid of it. But to this day I still get nose bleeds easily (unsure if that is related), especially if I rub my nose. Hardly any pimples, though (25 now).

SRSLY

In reality you will find that Jessica Simpson did suffer from acne. Prior to ProActiv she recommended Accutane which worked for her.

However; 1 out a million customers of ProActiv will find her show up at their doorstep for sexual favors in trade for her royalties.

My acne isn't as bad as it used to be a few years ago but now it's more 'under' the skin type thing now, so cremes, etc are not doing much. Having a clear face is something that I've always wanted -- I've had ance since I was about 13, and it's always been something that I hate. Having a clear face would give me so much more confidence in myself, that I feel it's something I have to do now.

Anyway, I'm worried about the liver issue but oddly enough mostly the blood work -- I've never had my blood taken and something about it creeps me out, etc.

So what are your experiences if you have taken it? Also, how often did you have to get blood work?

you have to be on birth control to counteract some of the side effect.

and even w/that, your bones will still sometimes ache.
