I find him to be an unlucky one of thousands of people that drink and drive. He is no more of a prick than anyone else who has done it, myself and a million college kids included.
True enough, but that doesn't make him not a prick. It makes you and "a million college kids" pricks as well.

He should have been executed. Take a life, lose your own.

The punishment should fit the crime and reflect our values. Otherwise you would end up like countries in the middle east where you get executed for eloping....

No thanks.

These things remind you to take a step back from your life and just enjoy it. It's strange to think just how fragile life is.

Well, he took a life so taking his would fit the crime. But this thread isn't about capital punishment.

Update:

Settlement reached in fatal DUI lawsuit
August 12, 2010 4:44pm EDT

Convicted drunken driver Anthony Torsell has settled a lawsuit with the family of the Conshohocken man killed as he crossed Atherton Street in the path of Torsell's speeding car.

The terms of the settlement weren't disclosed.

Richard Smith, 21, and Aaron Stidd, now 23, were hit by Torsell's car as police said he sped through a State College intersection with a blood alcohol level of .242 on Oct. 28, 2006.

Smith died and Stidd has suffered years of debilitating brain and physical injuries.

I wish we could have a sub-forum called Memorials or something like that where threads like this one could live & be easily found, rather than drifting around in the sea of OT.

Glad to hear the families involved are getting some closure.

Looks like the story is finally over for Ace's family. Unfortunately, his friend will have to live with the result for the rest of his life it seems.

Kind of makes you wonder which one got it worse - the one who was killed, or the one living with permanent brain damage and physical injury.

You know I pondered that question this morning too as I posted the latest article and read the sentence, "Smith died and Stidd has suffered years of debilitating brain and physical injuries."

Would I rather be dead or unaware of my surroundings and a burden for others... I'm not sure I know the answer. :\

Why do people feel the need to keep resurrecting this old thread?
Some nerve you have. :\

I will take full responsibility for "resurrecting this old thread". I have kept track of this story and if it makes the news I post the articles. It just made the news again.

You might not understand its relevance, but we here, who were friends with the deceased, don't have an issue with bumping this thread, and remembering him. Also, this brings to the forefront a reminder to all not to drink and drive.

Please "feel the need" to stay out of this thread if you have nothing of value to contribute.

That was the sentence that did it for me too.

In my case I'd take death. I'd probably hope for the same if it was a loved one of mine too.

At least with death, life continues on for the family. It's different, but it's normal. With permanent injury like that, life never goes back to normal for anyone involved.

You will never amount to 1/100th the person acemcmac was. Those of us that were here when it happened like to get updates about it.

People like you make me question God. acemcmac gets killed and a piece of trash like you gets to keep on breathing.

I was brought here again by one of the many broken sigs that still exist here. I had not heard what happened to the driver. Reading the court details and then up to the defendents letter I can only sumarise that he is sorry that he ruined his life, not those of others.

There's a difference between having a couple of beers and driving hammered off your ass. Blowing .24 means you can't even see straight.

I'm glad to see this thread still gets some activity. I come back to it at least once a year around this time, it reminds me every year that Ace had such an impact on so many of us, that even his memory does not just die off on the internet.

There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of Ace, something he taught me, or something he had at one time said...

This year I'll be lighting up a stogie in Rick's memory. The man who taught me so much, inspired me then, and now.
