All I knew about the guy was here on these forums where he demonstrated a great sense of humor and posted far more thoughtfully than most. That leads me to believe he was probably a genuinely cool guy to know better.

RIP.

I went to high school with Rick. I used to sit next to him in the computer lab all the time, browsing Anandtech. I did some immature stuff that sometimes put me at odds with his friends. And then there were the contentious arguments about his affinity for the Mac. But TheLonelyPhoenix said it best, "Although Rick was an highly opinionated guy who got under everyone's skin from time-to-time (myself included), he was still someone to be respected." Not to mention all the amazing stuff Rick accomplished after high school. Finishing college so quickly, and now buying a house.

Even though the last time I saw Rick in person was years ago, it doesn't feel like it. It's such a huge shock to read news like this. My condolences to the family and his close friends. I can't imagine what it must be like for you. If there's any way I can show my support, please, let me know. This is Vince from the class of 04. Hey Bryan. Demetri and Adam, I used to go to LANs with you guys, not sure if you remember.

RIP Rick

Driver was going 50-60mph in a 35mph zone without his headlights on. Other victim still in critical condition.

.242

That guy was approaching a BAC that would result in him passing out. He had at least 5 drinks. Odds are he was close to .3 during the accident.

I wuold say he had no less than a dozen drinks that night. Probably had been drinking for several hours straight. at .24 his walking would be severely impaired.

R.I.P.

I remember him (I found his name so strange, I couldn't help noticing it all the time)... My sincere condolences to family and friends.

how does someone get out with only posting 10% of their bail? i don't get it.

Torsell was released from Centre County Prison yesterday afternoon after posting 10 percent of his $75,000 bail.

also, the article mentions 3 pedestrians. one of them Richard, one Aaron Stidd who is in the hospital, and no mention of who the third one was who it seems escaped unscathed.

Matthew Shlegel, an eyewitness, told police that Torsell's car was "flying" through the intersection, while Torsell had a green light. Shlegel told police he saw three pedestrians walking fast through the intersection "huddled over." He told police it was raining when he observed Torsell's car strike two of the three pedestrians, according to the criminal complaint.
