I'm getting it for my home cinema. What's the optimum viewing distance for 14' screen??? Hmmm, might have to make an addition onto my house to fit this in. This will also be sweet to watch in-flight movies on when I fly out to the east coast.

Thanks OP. I noticed this deal a few days ago, too. This laptop does seem to offer very good bang-for-buck.

very good reviews on newegg. is it worth waiting till bf for possible deals on laptops? sofar, looking at the ads, i haven't seen anything for laptops aside from some duel core ones, not c2d.

Ads for all the major retailers are out with the exception of Fry's. Assuming you don't see anything you like in those you should probably jump on this Acer if you like it. Unless you're betting on Fry's having some good deals on BF.

i might just do that, I heard fry's is good about keeping a tight lip on their bf deals.

thanks

Around 100 feet away from it. Make sure you have a wireless mouse and keyboard that can go that far first.

The 9100M-G was what caught my eye. It's a Cuda compatible chipset.

I do not game, but stream video, slingbox, watch DVD's... should the better graphics be a deal maker over a unit with integrated Intel GMA 4500M, which I understand is not great?

thanks for the help~

Check out the Newegg reviews on this machine... It appears your fifty bucks or so may be well spent if you prefer the NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G motherboard GPU over the Intel 4500M/MHD that the Intel models have. There are other deals more or less equivalent to the OD deal on similar Intel models at other stores today... I have seen these two deals: BB and MicroCenter (B&M only) .

Other beyond-the-obvious differences I have noticed: apparently the model OD has (AS4730-4857) has two USB 2.0 ports as compared to three on the Newegg model (AS4530-5627), Wireless-N: 802.11b/g/Draft-N wireless LAN, as opposed to b/g on the Newegg unit ... the BB model (EX4630-4658) has the smaller 120GB HD and the Wireless-N: 802.11b/g/Draft-N wireless LAN. I am not sure which model MicroCenter has, but I heard there were huge lines of ppl waiting to get into the Cambridge, MA location yesterday.

It would be interesting to hear what ppl have to say about their preferences in terms of the CPUs, GPUs and the Chipsets... The 9100M G is Cuda and PhysX compatable.

gba,

Thanks for the research/knowledge. I am looking for a solid laptop for my wife (web, email, Excel, ...) so the CPU, GPU, Chipset is not much of an issue, but the wireless, HD (RPM), and USB ports are so thanks for the information about other options.

It was my pleasure... and thanks for taking the time to respond. I do not usually get much time to post to the boards, but I sure have gotten plenty of help of my own participating here and there over the years. It is gratifying to know that I was able to help someone else out, as I have been helped out by many others.

BTW, I do believe all of these machines come with 160GB 5400 RPM SATA HDs, except the model at Staples, which differes only in its smaller capacity, not its speed.
