I was also at a Costco yesterday and they didn't have any 22" widescreen.

Just an FYI to those that ordered online. I just called MC and mentioned the monitor had dropped in price since I ordered. The customer service rep looked up my order, and without any hassle at all, said he would put the credit back to my card tonight, and I should see it in a day or so.

 to good ole' customer service!

I see myself ordering from them more in the future...

Wow! You sir are a hardcore nerd . . .

Newegg was $389 during last week, they dropped price to day to $329.
I am expecting to see newegg price drop to at least $289 within a week or two.

Competition. e-retailers scout each other's prices constantly.

Only time will tell but if you wanted so bad why can't you just buy it from MC which is a good store too though not quite as popular as NE.

I'd say that the panel is very cheap... and the specs we all want to see...

microcenter doesn't really pull hot deals... the probably bought double in bulk

What makes me think this way?
MC has BM stores and as a result huge overhead that keeps their prices higher than online only e-tailers.

But in any case I will get it from local MC: no shipping charges and I can return it any time I want. And I am driving by MC every day.

MC some time has a better price than the egg. You have to get their specials. And for those like Ark who can drive by their local MC, this is a no brainer. Exchange, warranty, refunds, price adjustments etc...

This Acer 22" is an exceptional deal. It used the Chimei (one of the biggest OEM panel producer) panel 22" that it is rumored to be used by Dell in their next 22" LCD offering.

The 1680X1050 resolution is perfect for text, color is fabulous (although it has only 6 panels simulated to be 8 panel color which I cannot tell the difference), response time is excellent for gamers, in addition for very high contrast ratio.

The Dell 2407 is 2"diagonal bigger and according to experts, better, but is it worth the double cost is for you to determine.

The Viewsonic VX2235 also uses the same Chimei panel, identical specs, 3 year warranty instead of 1 for the Acer. It is also rumored that Acer makes the electronics for Viewsonic.

I prefer the Viewsonic, mostly because of cosmetics and a built-in stereo speaker. But the best price for the Viewsonic that I can find is $350 and it is sold out at my local warehouse.

You are making way too many assumptions.

I agree with everyone that its a good price for a 22" and nothing more than that. I havent heard of the rumor being that its the same panel as dells next offering, but how many of Dell's 20"+'s monitors are TN? None of them and this Acer is a TN. Even if dell's next 22" is going to be TN, it shouldnt be grouped up with their other excellent S-IPS monitors. They are different.

You are comparing dell's 24"? It costs alot more not because its 2" larger, but its native res is alot bigger than 1680x1050 also its a better panel type.

Lastly viewsonics upcoming 22" is also a TN I believe, but again dont group these type of panels with other higher quality panels just because a certain manufacturer makes them.

I'm not saying TN's are bad panels, just that its not as good as the higher quality panels as some people claim.

Its a TN 22" 1680x1050 Acer LCD at 299$. A good deal, nothing more than that.

I picked one up over lunch at the Microcenter in Overland Park, KS.

Also picked up a 1 gb SD card for $16.00.

Took the monitor to work to check for bad pixels. Found none.

WOW.. I'm using a 21 inch NEC multisync FE1250 at work right now.

The 22 inch WS LCD blows it away. After playing(testing) diablo 2 on the lcd for about 5 minutes, I turned it off and put the lcd away for transport home. I went back to the 21 inch CRT and it almost hurts my eyes how much less real estate there is. The 21 inch is so tiny compared to the 22 inch widescreen. I can't wait to get home and install it and try out WoW with it.

Not trying to go off topic, but MC also has the Sceptre 20" WS panel for $230. It runs at the same res as the Acer, but runs on an 8bit panel according to the manufacturer website. Just has two less inches. Seems to have the same specs as the Viewsonic 20" WS that goes on sale from time to time that everyone in the video forum loves.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on the Sceptre...anyone used it before?

Wow! You sir are a hardcore nerd . . .

Nah
Definitely not hardcore. Just an average nerd.

I looked at both the sceptre and the acer.. they were about 5 feet away from each other at MC.

The sceptre was very noticeably smaller than the acer and from the screensaver they were using, the colors looked identical. I had a friend with me and he could tell no difference either.

Then again, I sometimes eat ramen noodles and like stargate so my opinion might not mean much.

For $70 more, the 22 inch is a much better deal imho.
