Then again, I sometimes eat ramen noodles and like stargate so my opinion might not mean much.

For $70 more, the 22 inch is a much better deal imho.

Hmm...the reason I ask is because I'm a broke college student, and that extra $70 would go a long way. Granted, my current 19" Samsung 997DF CRT already has bad color reproduction...light blacks, dark whites...so maybe going to the Acer wouldn't be much of a coloration difference, especially if the dithering algorithm is good, which it seems like since many of you say the colors look great.

Wow, I really have no idea what to do. Damn you MC

If you really need the monitor then get the spectre. See if you can find reviews for it.

Anyone know if it'll hang on a wall?

Optional; 100mm mount (Not Included)

Yes, I believe it will.

My Peerless wall mount arrived from Newegg today...when I get the Acer mounted, I'll take plenty of pics...

i saw this monitor today and its pretty bad ass.
For 32x after tax you cant complain about anything.
The screen is massive and i might buy a pair to join my 24in dell.

Thanks, it sounds like a quality monitor. I'll see if I can't scrape up an extra $70 for the Acer. Either ways, you guys are great and have been really helpful. This thread rocks.

guys... holy hell... coming from a 19" display myself and this monitor is so huge its not even funny! I'll try to get pics up during the weekend..

P.S. Disappointed as there was bleeding at the top and bottom of the screen.. but as long as the screen ain't black you can't tell.

I just returned this monitor to MC yesterday for another one because it had a vertical line going thru the sceen after a week and the fact that it had light leaking from the top. So far, the new screen does not have any light leaking at all. I am happy again.

Do you guys think this is a good upgrade from the DELL2005FPW, which has the same resolution? Been thinking about it since the first post, does the grain size really matters?

No. Dot pitch on LCD's is not an indicator of display quality.

On CRT screens, dot pitch was an indicator of the resolution where the monitor will get blurry. Small dot pitch meant there was less blurriness at a given resolution.

On an LCD, there's just one resolution that's optimal. Dot pitch is merely a function of size and resolution. So, the image will look equally sharp on a 20" and a 22" screen - it's just that it'll be bigger on the 22", and text will be easier to read, a boon if you're over 40 or wear glasses.

Ordered it today at around 3:00, it was ready to be picked up by 6:00. The color is magnificent, this size is incredible. Bright, durable, quality display.

When I was shopping for an LCD TV, I noticed that practically every display I was looking at had the same specs, but when I visited Circuit City to check them out, each one's picture quality looked so distinctly different and my decision could only have been made, imo, through a first-person inspection of the unit.

Despite all the hubbub about 8bit colors, dpi ratios, etc. You really need to just check it out yourself. The spectre 20" widescreen (with comparatively better specs) was setup next to this acer 22" at MC, and yet the quality of this screen seemed much better (crisper text, brighter screen, seemingly better range of color) than its competitor.

By no means is this the highest quality monitor of its generation, but for $300, it's an amazing deal and provides great value. A much welcomed replacement to my 17" Dell 1704FPT.

how would this monitor work as a TV? I'm looking at picking it up and this is killing the price of most 20" WS TV's

Also, so we're all clear on why this is getting marked down:

http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/12/acer-releases-22-24-and-26-inch-lcds/

That didn't stop Acer from revealing that both the new 22-inch AL2216W and 26-inch AL2616W will be replaced by HDCP-capable versions during the fourth quarter. Reason being, the current iterations of these models -- both members of the company's Value Line -- lack the necessary digital inputs to support the HD copy protection standard, although that's not the case with the the third display released today, the DVI-sporting, 24-inch AL2434WR.

I purchased one. It's great for 300 buckaroos. The Microcenter in VA had a ton of em.

Don't see any dead pixes yet

Too bright for my eyes, need to lower it a little.

Just wondering where 16.2 coming from?
with 8 bit panel it will be (2^8)*(2^8)*(2^8)=16777216 ->16.7 mil

how about 6 bit math - It is not giving me 16.2?

6 bit gives 64 possible colors
8 bit gives 128

By mixing colors (through dithering and/or FRC) 6 bit panels can create 3 virtual colors between every 2 adjacent colors

64 + 3 * 63 = 253 real and virtual colors

253^3 = 16194277

16.2 million

Nerd your 1st post is that????

lol, that's what I was thinking... Good deal though OP, I bought my LG 17" panel for 300 only a few years ago, amazing to think how far we have come in LCDs to have a 22" with more accurate colors and better resolution for the same price. And the difference from 17 to 22 inches is absolutely amazing, you will never go back.... Unless you get a smaller desk

Here are some notes after running it for a few hours.

- I see no problems with colors looks as good as my old 17" LCD

- Very bright - as always with nes LCDs, I know it will go down in a few months.

- It took me some time to accomodate to huge space. No such thing as a full screen anymore, all apps will be running in a window mode.

- Horizontal viewing angle is good, but vertical is not. If I sit, it is OK, but if stand up, image quality is not that great because of vert. viewing angle

- No height ajustment

Also please be aware that MC has 10% restocking fee on all monitor returns! I did not know this until I looked at my reciept at home.
