Acer al2016w dvi?

I have this 5 year old Acer AL2016W and it has analog and Looks like DVI I just got it from a school sale for cheap a few months ago I did not have a DVI cable so I did not use one. I purchased one and Now the four little pins on one end won`t fit into the Monitor

Can I just cut them Off??

Did I buy the wrong type of DVI cable

I really don`t want to destroy an unused cable for nothing if anyone can give me any input I would appreciate it. I do not know why they would put a fake DVI input on a monitor does not make sense

According to the specs from Acer that model doesn't have a DVI input, just analog VGA. Care to take a picture of said input that looks like it's DVI?

Edit: Interesting, I re-read the specs and actually this monitor had the option of a DVI connector but not all of them had it, it sounds like yours has that connection. According to the user manual for this monitor the DVI connector is a DVI-D type connector which means that it does not have the 4 pins around the 1 slot type pin at the end. It sounds like you purchased a DVI-I cable which is what most LCD monitors use nowadays. You'll need to return it and get a DVI-D type cable.

Thank you I really don`t want to send it back right now Christmas spending every cent count not to mention I spent alot on ME More than I should have anyway even the shipping charge would be alot until after the Holidays I think I might try to cut them off on one end don`t know how I will do it yet breaking those little pins off would not be the hard part it would be filing down the center pin so it would not be as wide, which I just read is the ground and still not sure it would work so I have not done that.
