Good luck...I hope you REALLY like waiting.

maybe 50 for 30" is a little extreame. but considering in last year 20" cost 500+ i think we can expect 200 24" and 500 30" in a year.,

Yes it is correct.
The size of screens (TVs and Monitors) are measured diagonally from corner to corner.

Active Area is listed here: http://www.auo.com/auoDEV/prod...oduct_id=75&items_id=1

Thanks xtknight that makes it about 10.7" H X 17"W. I know my brothers Dell is around 12"X19" so he must have a 22" wide screen. I do like this resolution better on the 20's though.

Just a note, I have one little beef in regards to this monitor (actually in regards, I believe, to my video card). With this monitor, I am unable to implement any hardware scaling with my eVGA 7800GT, irregardless of which driver set I use (and from what I gather, this applies to all 7xxx cards in XP, as well as others.. From what I've been reading this has to do with nvidia's scaling requiring the monitor refresh rate to exceed 60hz, which is more than this monitor is capable of, so I am stuck with the monitor's built in scaling until I either change GPU or nvidia fixes the issue. If anyone knows of a workaround, I'd be happy to hear of it.

Other than that, I've done some rudimentary color calibration, and this monitor is FAR better than my 17" Dell Ultrasharp (both in regards to color and screen size), and due to placement of the monitor, the glossy coat is not an issue. For $215 shipped, I'm very pleased with this monitor, and hopefully something can be done in regards to hardware scaling in XP.

Same deal with my 6600gt. The built in scaling does a decent job, but doesn't seem to allow for pixel mapping. I get a screen full of weird white and gray patterns when I enable nVidia scaling.

Hmmm, spent enough time digging to find a solution that works well enough.

Got to the nvidia control panel (the new one, although I'm sure you can do it in classic view as well, it's easier to go through the directions with the new view).

Select "Advanced View", then select the "Display" button.

Go to "Manage Custom Timings", select your monitor (if applicable)

Select "Create..."

In the popup box, make sure the res and refresh rate match up with your monitor's native resolution, then select the "Advanced >>" button

Under "Back-end parameters", select "GTF", and make sure the desired refresh rate is that of your monitor's refresh rate (mine was 60)

Hit "Test"

Follow up by going to Display > Change flat panel scaling > [Select whichever you prefer...I prefer fixed aspect]

This should work, works for me anyways, however I notice that while it works, the settings don't seem to stick if you go back to the control panel, and I haven't tested it upon restart either.

Does anyone know if this is a temporary price drop or whether it is going to stay at this price?

No clue...I got it at 239.99 + S&H when it was listed for 289.99 on the egg. The price went up to 289.99 again, then to 279.99 and now 199.99. I'm betting it will sit at this point for awhile.

Is this a worthy upgrade over my Dell 2001FP? (1600x1200)

I'm hesitant to lose the 150 vertical pixels.

Nice looking LCD. How is Acer's customer support? I've had to replace two LCD monitors and luckily both Samsung and Viewsonic have been superb in that regard.

Well I just got mine set up yesterday (after it sat in the mailroom at work all weekend... ) and it looks great! I'm reallly happy with the color consistancy/viewing angle, and so far it's working well with games (F.E.A.R. and WarRock).

One thing I was very impressed with was the Auto calibration. I just brought up the calibration screen in my Nvida control panel and pressed the Auto button on monitor and now it looks great! (I had pressed the auto button while at the desktop, and since my desktop is predominantly blue and black, I think it threw it off a bit)

I'm not sure if I'm going to use my Spyder colorimeter on it or not. I know it's supposed to work on LCDs, but is the glossy screen going to make a difference? Anyone have any experience with this?

I haven't noticed anything when I press the auto button, is there something you have to do to activate it?

The Spyder should be able to calibrate a glossy screen just fine.

Wow now I'm in a predicament. This or the HP w2207? How valuable are those extra 2 inches? I plan on using this monitor to watch downloaded movies+TV shows and casual gaming, and possibly hook up a VGA TV Tuner. I plan on watching from 6-8 feet away on my bed. Will the TN panel (in the HP) be a pain in the ass because of the more limited viewing angle? The HP does have a versatile stand, so I should be able to tilt it to where it needs to be. Even so, I can see it being annoying if the viewing angle is extremely sensitive and I have to be careful not to move around at all. Is the Acer significantly better in this regard?

What would you guys do in my position, if 1: cost was no object, and 2: keeping cost in mind. Anyone's help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

The Acer will be superior in terms of everything, from viewing angle to color reproduction. As far as stand versatility, the HP might be better, but that's about it.
