Acer Aspire 5 heat issues

I have an Acer Aspire 5 A515 54 51DJ with Core i5 cpu. Having issues with the temps getting pretty warm. Even when just browsing the web for a short period, temps would jump up to mid 90's and can hear the fans speeding up, wouldn't stay there that long but constantly jumping up.

I keep the dust cleaned out but never repasted the cpu. So I recently did that and while it did seem to help with the high temp. Was in the mid 90's, now in the low 80's. But even at idle, low temps would be around 60 and it is constantly jumping up to low 80's. I realize laptops are notorious for heat but this can't be normal. Are these models known to have heat problems more than others?

I checked the cpu usage and it is around 25% and jumps to around 40% and noticed malwarebytes is using most of that. I figure that is what is causing the temps to jump around so much. And I am guessing not much I can do about the cpu usage, besides closing malwarebytes.

This model has decent CPU and RAM resources, seems like MalwareBytes shouldn't be utilizing that much CPU unless it is doing a scan. Did you thoroughly clean out the CPU fan and cooling ducts? Have you the latest BIOS? Acer is sparse on BIOS change notes, only highlighting the major reason for the new release.

Malwarebytes must have been doing something, although the scan was already done, scan complete message showed up. Now cpu usage is just a few percent. When the cpu usage is that low, idle temps get down to mid 30's. But when the cpu usage goes up, high temps still get in mid 80's and it doesn't take much for that to happen. While browsing the web, temps seem to stay around mid 40's to mid 50's.

I did clean out the cpu fan and ducts, was not even that bad.

According to cpu-z, I have bios version 1.07 and on that download page, 1.24 is the newest version. But what does the bios have to do with temps? And another thing, I can't seem to figure out how to get into bios. During the startup screen, nothing shows up that tells you how to enter bios. I have tried spamming both the f2 and the delete key during startup and nothing. I think turning cpu turbo off will make a big difference, just not sure if I will like the reduction in speed.

You could try holding F2 while powering on until the BIOS screen or boot menu appears. Otherwise, you can enter the UEFI setup/configuration from Advanced Start-Up options:

Go to "Setttings" > “Update and Security > "Recovery" and click on the “Restart Now” button under the Advanced Start-up section. In the Advanced start-up screen, go to “Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options” and click on the “UEFI Firmware Settings” option.

BIOS/firmware can influence numerous settings affecting power and thermal properties, Smart Fan performance, etc. One of the BIOS updates mentions 'noise' issue. The only 'noise' generating component is the cooling fan (or speakers).

I was able to get into bios by holding the f2 key. Not sure why that didn't work before, maybe I wasn't holding my mouth right lol. But I did not see any way to turn off turbo for the cpu. Maybe most laptops don't have a way to do that, idk. I have not updated it yet but will.

Still the CPU seems in high heat. When ever I turn on the PC or laptop it gets high heat very fast. I have tried the steps to reduce overheating of laptop using the instructions provided in the link below.

However, still the overheating problem exists.

The same problem I am facing on my Acer Aspire laptop. Sometimes the temperature goes high, or hang the machine.

While checking the laptop, I recognized the problem is somewhat related to the Windows update.

Occasionally the Windows updates fail, and until I restart the machine manually, it shows issues like high temperature or freezing.
