Acer Ferrari F-22 - 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor

$199.99 @Buy.com
free shipping (caveat)

Newegg has it for $299.99 PLUS shipping

On the one hand this is a typical decent 22" widescreen monitor:
1680x1050 resolution
TN panel

On the other hand, this monitor is special:
VGA/DVI/HDMI inputs
branded "Ferrari" (FWIW)
glossy screen (like many notebooks)
3 year warranty (seems like many cheap monitors only have 1 year)
super low response time, super high contrast (maybe creative measuring?)
many Newegg reviewers (FWIW) said picture quality looked better than their other LCD monitors

I actually decided to buy this because it supposedly weighs 10.4 pounds, making it a nice LAN party monitor. Also, wanted to check out the glossy screen.

Nice looking LCD but still. You could get a 1080P TN panel for that much.

I'm not so sure a glossy screen would be a positive on a monitor . Dealing with glare in window lit rooms can be a serious hassle.

Killer Deal on a very nice monitor, lol to many monitor snobs out there, TN panels are great bang for the buck and side by side with other panels many could not tell which was which.

after buying a cheaper one once, a question that now comes to the top of my list for these type of items is how is the stand.

From the description, the stand only allows for tilt, so it is pretty basic. The weight of the monitor is really low so the stand is probably just plain plastic. That may or may not be a bad thing depending on design and effective stability.

I'll let you know once I receive mine.

Thanks! I passed the info along to a friend who has been looking for a 22" with this feature-set.

Does Lockheed Martin/Boeing & Ferrari have anything to do with this monitor?

It must, I don't think Acer would be allowed to use their logo without licensing. I believe Acer has some deal with Ferrari.

On a side note, I have looked and can't seem to find any confirmation that this display is 'glossy' I see where it says 'glossy bezel' but that is not the same thing. I searched good and canot find anywhere where it says the display itself is glossy, and that is holding me back from pulling the trigger.

After a few more searches, I believe this is Matte. I found this forum post from Hard Forums.

The Samsung T220 and the Acer Ferrari F-22 are both TN panels and have matte finishes. The usually reliable method to tell if a panel is TN or not (off of website specs) is to look @ the viewing angle data: if it's lower than 178/178 degrees, it's TN. As for telling matte off of a specs list, you can't: that's something you have to do research for.

Four of the Newegg reviewers mentioned the screen itself was glossy.

You can see yourself with the glossy screen when it is turned off

I'll find out as soon as it arrives... if I have time... I already have a box from Newegg and another from Woot! (probably my bag of crap) that I have not yet opened.

Please let me know! I hope I am wrong... My google searches for "Acer Ferrari F-22 Matte" came up with a ton of legitimate hits and my search for "Acer Ferrari F-22 Glossy" only came up with references to the glossy bezel and then this thread, ironically...

I hope you find out BEFORE this deal is off. I'd pick one up if I was 100% confident that this was a glossy display. Has me thinking that maybe there are two types of these displays out there now with slightly different product numbers.

Edit ** Good News!

This thing is Glossy! Or at the very least has both variences. Chances are very high that this one is glossy. I'll be likely picking one up.

Not a single review or spec sheet out there lists the scaling options of this thing. I do have "beef" with the Ferarri logo, since with it, this monitor looks like something you'd see in a teenage boy's room, but I'd be willing to put up with that if the scaling options were good, and the response time was indeed 2ms and not 5ms (2ms GTG).

LOL, that review reads as Engrish.
Glossy screen isn?t generally accepted with thumbs up gesture, but we believe that on the market exist enough proponents, or at least indifferent ones, that are also Ferrari fans.

Acer's web site - technical specifications of F-22
Acer® CrystalBrite Technology
> Yes

There it is.

Engrish might even be pushing it...

You will be happy with your glossy screen IF you don't have a ton of bright light around you. My LG 22" Glossy is the best monitor I have ever owned. But if i had to use it in a super bright area, I might not feel the same way.

@ Zap, did you get your monitor yet and how do you like it?

Not sure if you've seen the competition, but I'd like your opinion of this Acer relative to the HP 2207h and/or the LG L227WTG-PF.

Thx, B

I indeed got the monitor yesterday. Haven't done much with it yet besides basic use - no gaming or videos. I also have not had first-hand experience with the HP and LG monitors listed above.

My first impressions are pretty good. Picture quality is as good as any other 22" TN panel LCD monitor, and maybe better than some - though my experienc has mostly been with whatever was cheapest.

The screen itself is definately glossy. I'm accustomed to that on notebook computers, so I don't think it will bother me. Also, I think it makes colors and contrast a bit more vivid to my eyes.

The power button is lit red and the text for the other buttons is white. Combined with the red stripe and Ferrari logo, this monitor's got bling!

The base is flimsy compared to Dell monitor bases, but pretty decent compared to cheap monitors. It is molded plastic in a V shape like some of the Dell monitors, and has a metal insert to give it a hair more weight and stiffness.

It has VGA, DVI and HDMI inputs. It comes with power, DVI and VGA cables. So far I've only used the DVI, and probably will not use the others much if at all.

There is a plastic loop around where the base connects to the monitor. At first I thought "wow, wierd place for a handle." Then, as I was hooking it up it occurred to me that it was probably a cable guide, as the ports on the monitor are spread out far away from the base.

The bezel is also glossy. Heck the whole thing is so glossy that I'm afraid to strap on my LAN party monitor carrier for fear of blemishing it.

Now that I've had a chance to use it more... it is gawd awful glossy. For my intended use at LAN parties it will probably be fine, but I've been using it on a small table in my living room and the lights do glare off it. Still, I don't regret getting it.

Now, if the Acer G24 Orange gets discounted by 1/3, I might buy that as well. It looks HAWT!

Just a bump for this deal.

I picked up one of these from Buy.com, Newegg is still sold out, and it is a very nice display.
