Definitely a nice price, especially without rebates involved (other than the Canon printer if you want it)

i bought the 14.1 in one for 399.99 months ago. It's pretty good, but the screen is very dim.

which model? I have the 5570 from the staples deal and the screen is brighter than my Dell 30". One thing I noticed is that the dimness depends on power settings. The default on it is balanced, which very frequently will kick you into "dim"-mode to save power. Try switching to High Performance and see if that helps.

Ah, the difference 4 hours makes. I'll edit the OP to reflect that info.

Appears to be available online again. Just ordered it. Needed something like this. Well not really. lol But could use another lappy & for this price with a free printer looks good.

Added another 512MB of RAM though which brought the price up some but should be much more easier to run Windows Vista.

Can't believe they only recommend 512MB for the Home 'Basic' version.

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for, but, with the way they (pre~load) these laptops I'm sure that you will not actually get a "Disc Copy" of Windows Vista Home Basic, but, rather a partitioned & 'ghosted' version of the original set~up of this particular laptop.

Which does suck as you're paying for the OS but you're limited to using it on 'just' this machine.

There are ways of requesting a CD Copy but not sure how CUSA does this with their machines. I know that Dell will or used to give a copy of the OS for a small fee on a CD if requested.

I'm almost positive this one will come with only a 'RESTORE DISC' made especially for this laptop. Again....

3680???? I think that is it. i adjusted everything, and it is still dim compared to my other laptops.

Ok, bought one for a friend in desperate need.

Obviously 512mb RAM is not enough.

Anyone know how many slots are available and if the included RAM is one DDR2 512 stick or 2-256mb sticks?

I would like to order RAM up front and have it ready to go for my friend.

I have been thinking about these cheap laptops for awhile for my wife, but I don't think a 1.6 celeron is quite enough for vista, let alone 512 mem. The ram can of course be upgraded easy and cheap enough, but what about the processor? Are they soldered in, or socketed? Bios support for Core Duo/Core 2 Duo?

Sorry for all the questions!

Now that's a damn good question!

Anyone have an answer? I'll be PO'd if it's already using both slots with two 256MB Sticks. isgust;

As I've already bought an additional 512MB Stick in anticipation of having at least one empty slot to use.

Hmmmmm......

to be continued....
