Seems like a niche product, that won't look good when paired next to a high end Android tab, a Surface, or an ipad. Don't think it'll look too good next to an actual laptop either.

Any word on battery life?

It's an ultrabook in tablet form, how is that a niche product? The fact that it runs W8 Pro means it's already far more capable than an ipad, android, or even surface RT tablet will ever be. Intel is shooting for 8 hours minimum battery on their Core based W8 tablets.

Why wouldn't they? This isn't Windows RT, this is a full laptop, kinda like an ultrabook.

Ironically, the ultrabook itself is a niche product, check the sales numbers on them. Which makes this a niche product of a niche product. It also remains to be seen whether Windows 8 will be a strength or a liability.

Not to insult the ultrabook, I own one and find a great companion to my desktop to travel with. Mine's only Sandy Bridge though

$800 seems to be the starting price of every Windows 8 tablet we've seen mentioned so far. Lenovo, ASUS, and now Acer all starting at that price.

I want a Windows 8 tablet. And I don't think the price is unfair, but I just don't believe I'd pay that much for one.

Surely the atom based tablets won't be 800?

Wish they had option for 8GB RAM. It can't replace my laptop with only 4GB..

I'm extremely interested in one of these tablets. My laptop is almost 5 years old with a core 2 cpu. Though it was purchased in early '08 with 4gb of ram, I think on these 4gb will be the sweet spot.

I recently installed Windows 8 on that laptop and it performs noticeably better than Windows 7 did. Bigger than the 4gb of ram I want a 128gb SSD over the 64. 8GB of ram wouldn't be bad for a little future use of the tablet though.

If most of these start at $799 for these specs I'm interested. I'll wait until I can catch one on sale for around that price with a 128gb SSD.

I'm much more interested in the throng of transformer tablets coming with Win 8. There's several different designs and it looks like there's some good options coming up.

Thinkpad Tablet is $800 and has Atom. The W700 is very aggressively priced for the specs it has.

nobody will pay 800 for anything atom. and not very many people would pay 800 for a laptopwithoutakeyboard/tablet. thats why people arent buying ultrabooks

Don't like the look of the Acer but I do like the idea of a full fledged windows tablet.

Price seems fair for the specs....Although double the ram and ssd would be a lot more enticing!

Looks fair for the specs you get for the price. I wonder how much the Core i5 upgrade is ($100?). I'm really interested in these Windows 8 tablets (non-RT) since my current "dream device" is a sub-2.5lb Windows 8 tablet that can replace my tablet for "commuting" use (like on a bus) where a tablet form-factor would work better with touch-based input in the cramped quarters. Yet when I get to work I can plug it into a spare monitor + keyboard + mouse and use it like a full Windows 8 PC. This way I can keep all my files in one place and not have to convert videos etc. to "mobile-friendly" file types.

I see most of these new tablets having 4GB of RAM. I would feel more "comfortable" with 8GB (in case I want to turn on some VMs or something for training). But seeing that they have to design these to be thin + light as possible the RAM is probably soldered in (Thanks Macbook Air / Ultrabooks for starting the "soldered in RAM" trend). I'd pay up to $1200 for a Core i5 + 8GB RAM Windows 8 (non-RT) tablet. One made by Lenovo with a companion keyboard + touchpoint (nipple mouse) accessory would be great since I love their keyboards.

I'll probably have to wait for "Generation 2" devices in 1/2 year or so to get this wishlist.

If you need cheaper, just buy the Surface RT, which should be $300 or so (maybe closer to $400+ with Type or Touch Cover).

For full Windows 8 functionality, I really can't wait until the Surface Pro comes out.

Any word if the Surface Pro will offer 8GB RAM upgrades? I haven't really seen a non-RT Windows 8 Tablet announced with anything over 4GB RAM. And in these new thin-light form-factors, the RAM is most likely soldered in the motherboard.

I guess a "Plan B" is to lug around a 4lb Thinkpad X230t lol

$800 for a Windows 8 tablet vs the IPads $500 price point? Now granted its an ultrabook, but in order to stand out and compete you better be competively priced.

IMO this is just the Xoom tablet fiasco all over again.

As long as it needs a fan, it will always be a fail in my eyes.

Problem is WIndows app store will be pretty bare by comparison. All the apps and games that people might play on their iPad or Nexus 7 won't be there.

Honestly while running a full fledged Windows in a form factor that beats a true laptop is interesting and all. Especially with the specs (real Intel CPU and lots of memory), I cannot help but feel that I'd just buy a laptop for this usage. Reason I don't have a laptop is my Transformer Infinity does everything I used my laptop for which includes web browsing, games to pass time, reading, and email. No need for windows for my usage. I won't be trying to run photoshop on my tablet.

For some it might make sense and if MS gets their app store populated like Android I may consider one in the future when my Infinity becomes too antiquated.

That's a very good system for the money, if it isn't the cheapest pc with an IPS screen it's close to it and the rest of the specs are very respectable as well.

IMHO, that is a failed price, because you can get a i5 Dell Laptop for the same price, or an i7 for $100 more.

You cant compare these 2. One is a gadget and one is a computer.
