couldn't find any reviews but this value line was recently announced - http://www.engadget.com/2007/0...-xseries-lcd-monitors/

most likely a TN panel but still an amazing deal considering the price...bought one myself

should note that the mail-in rebate needs to be sent within 15 days of the invoice date, but considering they use Fedex 2-3 day shipping, that shouldn't be a problem (even adding a day or so for processing at their end). rebate expires Sep. 2nd.

Smoking hot! In for one.

Once you go 24" you can't go back. I'm using a Dell 2405 and love the size/resolution. Been waiting to get another 24" for cheap. Thanks OP.

This is awesome. Despite the fact that it's a TN panel (5ms response time), it signifies that 24" monitors have now broken the $400 barrier. And they jumped right down to $300 - pretty sweet.

Hopefully the floodgates will open now.

Wow, that's cheap.

I'm hoping for those kind of prices w/o rebates... plus glossy screen!

(I'm also still waiting for DNF)

Hey, it could happen! There are already a few (too few) glossy desktop LCD screens, plus prices can, will and do drop. Example - my first LCD was a 19" Acer from 3½ years ago for around $400. Now they sell for less than half that. Okay, extreme example. How about 22" widescreens? Last fall they were $350, but I got mine for $299AR. This past Friday I picked up an extra 22" wide (to replace a 17") for $179.99 with no rebates. LCD monitor prices seem to bottom out around $150-250 after a lot of manufacturers come out with the same size. The next size up are the 24" widescreens, with more and more manufacturers coming out with this size over the past ½ year. Result? Prices will go down and stay down.

I predict multiple brands (not just Acer) will have no rebate sale pricing under $400 by December.

Nice deal. 24" monitors are amazing, my RA had one and everyone on my floor was jealous. They are fricken huge. Someday I will be able to afford one.

Was wondering if the stand that comes with this 24" display is height adjustable? Or is it just the regular value line kind of stand that Acer provides that only tilts forward and back? Still... great deal... must try to resist

Anyone know the differences between this one and the AL2416WBsd, which is apparently the replacement model? As best I can tell, the specs and physical appearance are the same, but the 2416 comes in at $500 (vs $400 and a $100 rebate)...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but BB lists the viewing angles as 178 degrees in both directions... doesn't that mean this isn't a TN?

the specs shown on Best Buy are different from others, including from those people who have already purchased one and indicate that it most likely is a TN screen. I don't think the AL2416WBsd is a replacement model - the xseries was only recently announced while the former has been out for a while now. should receive mine in 2-3 days hopefully (tracking number hasn't gone into fedex's system yet) -- is there any simple tool to conclusively determine the panel type or 6bit/8bit spec?

picked one up at gwinnet outside atlanta around 10:30, they had around 10 left out on the floor but noticed when I was up at the register that some sales guy was carting 3 up to the front. monitor seems good, one stuck green pixel when screen is black but I can't notice it at all.

The Best Buy specs are different enough that I think someone copied the wrong thing to start from. (I prefer Best Buy's specs to the real ones .)

I assumed that the AL2416 was the newer unit because it shows up on Acer's (US) web site and the X241 doesn't (and the fact that the X241 has a big rebate, implying they are trying to flush them out). However, since I now see they were announced recently, it's quite possible that Acer just hasn't kept their site up to date.

I'd guess from the price, the 160°x160° viewing angle, and the 5ms response that it is TN. They _do_ claim 16.7M colors, which would imply an 8-bit panel, but I don't think I believe vendor's color claims...

I'm pretty sure that are not the same monitor, since the frame shown is somewhat different and the stand is quite different. However, the panel and electronics may well be the same - they have the same specs.

Another question: does anyone know if this interface supports HDCP? None of the "real" specs say it does. The Acer specs for the AL2416WBsd show HDCP, but if they dropped it, that may be one reason the AL is more expensive. Microcenter doesn't say HDCP for either one, but they show 1080p for the AL and nothing special for the X241...

I purchased one of these Localy at my Microcenter in Cleveland, They do have HDCP (says so right on the box ) I too upgraded from a 22" LCD (I'm keeping the 22 as a 2nd display). I compared the AL and X series 24" acer's side by side in the store and even though they have the exact same specs they do not have the same pannel or backlight, the AL looked brighter and had slightly better side to side viewing angles at the same contrast and brightness settings, based on the viewing angles its a safe bet the X241WSD is a TN pannel. Still w/ my 8800GTS w/ the DVI connection it looks damn good at 1920x1200, even better than my 22 @ 1680x1050, at at about 1/2 the cost of most other 24" lcd's I'm willing to give up a bit to get that quality of display w/ a 3 year factory warrenty.

edit: also as an FYI before I purchased my display I had the sales rep at micro center unbox and fire it up to ensure no dead pixels (they were willing to do this w/ no charge), the first display i powered up had 2 stuck blue pixes and a dead one right in a row on the far right hand side also another dead one slightly higher up. So I had them open up another one which was perfect, but even the one w/ the 4 defective pixiles looked good as they were all at the edge.
