Acer X34 or Asus PG348Q worth it?

I rebuilt my PC for a Rift and ended up getting a 980ti. Right now I'm using a U3011 that I've had for years, but I am wondering if a big gsync monitor is worth the upgrade (sidegrade?).

Does anyone have first hand experience with these monitors (well, the asus one isn't out yet...) and know if it is really a major difference?

The X34 is a very nice monitor. I've had mine for around 2 months now, can't go back to a panel without G-Sync.

The 100 Hz refresh makes a big difference too, hard to hit over 60 in more recent titles at 3440x1440 without SLI though. For example, the new Tomb Raider averages around 45-50 FPS. G-Sync at least makes that kind of frame rate playable, with a normal monitor anything below 60 always felt terrible to me, but I can tolerate 40+ with G-Sync.

I'm on a single 980 Ti myself, not a fan of SLI. I plan on upgrading my GPU when the 980 Ti successor comes out though.

Out of curiosity, how's the difference between 75 Hz and 100 Hz? I'm trying to figure out whether I should bite the bullet on the XR341CK or wait for another iteration with better specs.

75 Hz is a big improvement over 60, but around 90-100 is when things start to look liquid smooth to my eyes. The upcoming VR headsets also target 90, so that may be a sweet spot.

I have also tried the 165 Hz monitors, and the main benefit past 100 is that you gain the ability to use ULMB at 120 Hz and above. Other than that it really felt like going past 100 led to diminishing returns. I prefer using G-Sync over ULMB so didn't see much of a reason to wait for the 144 Hz DP 1.3 ultrawides coming out later this year (or next).

If I were you, I'd wait for Samsung's 100 Hz ultrawide rumored for Q2 this year. It should support FreeSync.

Yeah, that seems like a likely candidate especially since Amazon raised the price on the 341. Appreciate the advice, it's a bit hard to find someone who's really taken a look at the right things to give it.

At the current prices I'd say hell no. You're only getting 25% more viewing area with about 2X the amount you would spend on a normal 16:9 monitor. Right now you can get a decent 4K 60" for not much more.

I'd wait until prices drop or just pick up a new 27" and wait it out.

$1300 for a monitor is ridiculous.

In use an ultrawide is worth about two screens to me. Having an excellent work screen that can also be used to play games is worth some extra. What's not worth it is the Fury sized jump between free and g sync, although the price rise on the 341 isn't worth it right now. The giant 4k screens have their own issues.

I've gone ahead and ordered the X34 and it should arrive tomorrow. I am a little nervous about QC issues, but I ordered through amazon (3rd party, but amazon fulfillment), so I know I can return it if there are issues.

I was meaning you can buy a uhd TV for not much more.

Plus two screens is still cheaper depending on what you get. Personally since I have the desk space I prefer that. But that's just imo.

I know you can buy a big screen UHD TV for around the same price, the problem is that it's still 60 Hz.

Especially on a bigger screen, the increase in motion resolution you get from higher refresh rates is very noticeable. With 4K, you are losing a ton of detail in motion at 60 Hz due to blur.

So far so good. Brightness as as uniform as it needs to be for me to not be able to tell any different, no dead pixels, etc. I did have to reinstall my video drivers for gsync to enable. With demos and benchmarks I can tell a massive difference between gsync and not. I haven't gotten to any games yet because I have to pull the old monitor out and mount the new. I didn't want to do that until after my quality checks in case it had to go back.

Ok, yes, this monitor is worth it. I can see a large difference.

As to the person above who commented on 4k monitors, GPUs aren't powerful enough to do 4k in single GPU mode, and frankly, SLI support sucks right now. 21:9 with 1440 rows seems to be a sweet spot right now with a 980ti.

Glad you got a good one, enjoy! I've been super happy with mine. Agreed on SLI support, another reason why I wouldn't bother with 4K at this time.

You've got the 34" with 3440x1440 resolution ?

How's the text? Does it seem small to you?

I can't figure out which one to buy: Acer Z35 at 2560x1080 or Acer X34 at 3440x1440

I want it to be easy on my eyes, as I have to wear lenses/glasses while working as it is.

I was looking at the z35 as well but even with overdrive on it has a bit of ghosting and the color change when changing from a dark color is in excess of 50ms sometimes causing like a purplish smear in dark games. I was very much looking forward to this monitor and even posted about it in hot deals when i found a decent price but ultimately i didn't get it because those issues are a no go for me.

Got it.

So what did you end up with?

I am not in any rush, I currently have 3x24in 1920x1200 monitors.

I am waiting on this generation of graphics cards and there are some LG ultrawides and a samsung being released this year as well. I want to see what this generation brings as I feel like I will need to make a decision for the long term due to FreeSync vs G-Sync.

I am wanting to see if with the newer DP version we might receive more high refresh rate monitors. And also if it will drop the price on the X34.

I think high refresh is better than resolution. I've been bouncing through monitors since I wanted to change from my 30" Dell. Two 4K screens - IPS & IGZO and 2 samples of the TN Rog Swift. 4K was nice, but I don't like the performance at that resolution you get out of 2 cards. The TN Swift was a pile of crap, both of the units I tried were awful.

I ended up getting a 27" Dell and calling it quits until I tried the Acer XB271 and got lucky with a good sample with no dead pixels or BLB. The high refresh rate is a lot better for gaming than 4K resolution. IMO.

Acer X34 is very expensive but I from what I saw from the specs Iiyama XUB3490WQSU is also a 3440x1440 34'' monitor that can be run at 75Hz or even 99Hz according to some vendors, I wonder if that is indeed correct and the monitor isn't limited to 60Hz which I fear, because the price difference is huge.

http://www.iiyama.com/gl_en/products/prolite-xub3490wqsu-b1/

Here's the official site according to which it should support 75Hz refresh rate, I wonder if that indeed is the case because it sounds just too good to be true. Where I live that monitor costs 3500PLN compared to 5500PLN for the Acer.
I didn't notice that the Acer is curved and that iiyama is flat

ps. I hate that G-Sync/Free-sync bifurcation. I would hate to be stuck with either NV or AMD.
