If you don't want to pay extra for a Weber, buy an extreme cheap one if you can store it under roof. Grills are killed by rain/rust/spiders/bugs....usually the burners will fail due to rust and gunk build up. Webers will too though the grill surface isn't cheap...they are cast iron, I believe...
I bought a $44 grill from Walmart in 2009 ($94 + $50GC free). I still use it. I kept it indoors for like 4 years. It's been outside rotting the past year or so due to my construction project, but still works great.... I just know it'll need to be replaced one of these days because the plastic wheels are broken and the inside is showing its age... $44 for 6+ years ain't bad. Weber couldn't compete with that unless it lasts 30+ years where you'd want to replace it anyhow by then.
Yah. My current grill lineup on the patio:
1. Cheap Walmart charcoal grill. Works awesome.
2. Cheap Home Depot gas grill. Works okay. Doesn't get very hot.
3. Gas bayou burner (aka "fish fryer"). Epic.
4. 36" Blackstone griddle from Lowes. Epic.
5. Traeger pellet smoker/grill. Epic.
I think the only thing I would change is investing in a better gas grill. It simply doesn't get as hot as I'd like it to get. It was $129 at Home Depot, which is like bargain basement pricing for a gas unit, and it works for most stuff, but when you really want to flame up some burgers, well...just doesn't get very toasty. I use the bayou burner for doing my smash burgers because it gets up to 600F easily with my cast-iron pan, so I haven't really felt a need to get a better grill.
The Walmart charcoal grill OTOH is great. They go on sale for like $80 or so all the time. It's no Big Green Egg, but it gets the job done & I like the flavor more than gas (but gas is quick, which makes making food fast easy). It's nice for when I have more time or want to cook up a bunch of stuff over a flame, like when family comes over with kids & we need to keep production going, since the coals burn well for awhile.
The griddle is cool, especially for doing breakfasts. You can make like a dozen pancakes no problem. Or pork-fried rice, chicken, all kinds of stuff, it's crazy awesome. The pellet grill is great too, it's almost like an oven. It's basically like a convection of with smoke. Great, repeatable results with minimal babysitting. You can smoke for 18 hours if you want. Piece of cake.
So OP, kind of depends on what you want to do. If you want fast results & only want to use it once in awhile, get a Weber with a cover.
