I headed over to Best Buy today to pick up Sonic Foundry's Acid Pro 3.0 on sale for $99, since I had put off buying it through SF when they offered their promotion for $99.

I found it on the shelf, and there was no indicator of the sale (which was in their flyer for this week), and it was listed at $149.99. I took it up front and asked to have it scanned, to make sure it was on sale. It went through the register at $49.99.

Not sure if their prices are in a natoinal system or if they are entered on a store-to-store basis, but at $99 it's a great price, and $50 is a HOT DEAL.

WOW! I would buy this software $50 no problems. My current 3.0 "version" doesn't work so well.

<< pay...software?? really? >>

I use the software enough that I will pay for it. Try it - stealing isn't always the answer.

Loser.

Thanks KaBudokan, I know someone who's been looking for a deal on this. He believes in buying the software he uses also.

Can you use Acid Pro to mix two differnt MP3s together, add sounds to MP3s, as well as edit current MP3s? I am looking to do all this and need a solid program. Would help exponentially as far as making CDs for DJaying.

You can use Acid 3.0 to easily mix two (or more) MP3's. You can add sounds to MP3's, and edit current MP3's (although usually for editing you use Sonic Foundry's wave editor program Sound Forge, which the XP version comes with Acid 3.0). Also comes with Vegas Audio LE version, which will help further with multitracking and video scoring.

And you can definately use it for making CD's for DJaying. That's what I do with it! The new Acid 3.0 even comes with re-mix tools to be able to do this.

At $99.99 (which I took the online offer), this was a steal. At $50.00, this is white hot. I know a lot of people are probably using a 'cracked' copy, but when a company lowers it price to a very reasonable price, then you should buy it.

I also took Sonic Foundry up on their offer for the Loop Libraries. $200.00 for a whole year (12) of loop libraries. Seeing that these things run about $50.00 a piece, I thought it was a good deal.

Acid 3.0 will need more resources, and a few users are reporting some problems using it, so take that into account if you get it.

But, this is great software, and $50.00 it's a no-brainer to get.

stealing is not always the answer, but it is a hot deal.

If i use software enough, I pay for it as well, this could be a touchy subject

I'm gonna have to go check it out after work. Anyone have luck in MI? I agree that stealing is not always the answer, but sometimes for music software you gotta do what you gotta do. I buy programs i use often, but the prices on a lot of software are out of hand. For example, i can't justify paying $250 for a VST plugin, unless it is really good and i use it for everything. Heck, for the price of 2 synth plugins, i could go and buy another rack-mount hardware synth module. Overall, i think that if a lot of these music companies charged less for software, they would get a lot more sales revenue. A lot of aspiring musicians do not have $200 to pay for a program they haven't tried yet, and thus turn to warez'ing them. I buy a lot of audio software, but I like to warez it and try it out before I buy it.

Well, the great thing is that Music Software is coming down in price, but going way up in features. The first version of Acid was about $500.00!! And now you can maybe pick up an improved version for 1/10 the price?? Amazing!

I can't buy the argument that all music software is expensive, and that you need to turn to warez. For example, Magix has a product (Studio 6) which is really the same as Logic Audio, a high-end product used by many professionals to record with. There are few features not included in the product (such as for professional multi-track studio recording, something most bedroom musicians won't bother with anyway). Best Buy also had that on sale this week for $50.00, and gave a free copy of their Audio Clean-up software to boot! So if you can get Acid for $50, and the Magix Studio 6 Deluxe for $50.00 then this is about all you need to be able to create any type of music. Assuming that you have a Soundblaster Live card (and can use Soundfonts), I can't think of anything else that most non-professional musicians would need.

You need to support a company by purchasing their software, especially if the company is lowering prices so that everyday people can afford them. Music Software is a niche market, and they don't make a lot of money to recoup development costs off the high-end stuff (especially if everybody warez it). So, the best way that they can compete is to lower prices which hopefully increases volume enough so they can make some money. If not, then they go out of business, and then who do we turn to for music software then?

Pretty good deal! But (and sorry to pee on the parade) from my personal experience with Acid (incl. 3.0), there are free (can't beat that deal ) alternatives that can do the job and much more (albeit the interface may not be as easy to use).

My favorite free app is Buzz. Check out this Buzz community site: Buzz Machines. Basically, Buzz lets you do loops (cut up, straight looping, fitting to tempo, etc), soft synthesis (FSM Infector generator machine is killer), and effects on everything. Basically massive DSP processing available at your fingertips for free, and more and more plug-ins for Buzz coming out all the time. There are even Buzz plug-ins that let you load up VST/VSTi and DirectX plug-ins (although they are in beta/alpha state).

Just spreading awareness, I know it's off-topic, please don't flame...

I haven't seen anything that does what acid does anywhere near as well.
The realtime aspect of it is amazing, slide the tempo slider and all loops adjust automatically.
I sync it with Logic (which I also bought) and life is good.

Sonar from cakewalk is its closest competition and isn't anywhere near the same ballpark.
Haven't seen any free realtime packages before.

$99 is a great deal for Acid Pro.
$50 is just rediculous.

ACID is a very powerful program. especially with the 3.0 upgrade and its ability to use as many FX as you want. They made the colors ugly this upgrade but more visible with envelopes now. Pre and post FX volume control is cool.. overall the mixer is much more powerful with left/right volume controls.

I make all my music through ACID(all my electric stuff). I have yet to finish a song in 3.0. I have finished stuff in 2.0

I live in denver so i can go to that exact store and pick up a copy. Has anyone else confirmed the price yet?

I haven't searched around too much for alternatives to Acid, and actually, a big part of that is I haven't felt a need to. The main problem I had with Acid 2.0 was the FX limitations, and that has pretty much been taken care of in 3.0. I also do all my music almost eclusively in Acid (except for all live audio tunes, which I do in Vegas). Just for reference, 3.0 uses the Vegas engine, and IMO actually SOUNDS better than earlier versions. (I've heard other peopl say the same thing too.)

I would assume if you go the CO Blvd. store, you'll be able to get it for the same price. Like I said, I don't know about other locations. There were probably 3 other copies on the shelf when I was there. (I resisted my Hot Deals Ferengi temptation to pick them all up and ebay them... lol)

People are right, music software is expensive, but SF gave people a great opportunity to get Acid 3.0 for $99, as they did with Sound Forge 5.0. While I don't like the new SF 5.0 as much as Wavelab right now, you can't beat those prices for professional products of this caliber.

And just for reference - all you folks using pirated software, keep it out of this thread. Everybody knows you can find pirated software on the net for free, and you're not being cool or funny or helpful by posting that you use it. This is a deal for people who want to purchase and license the software legitimately.

Well, I can confirm...

Just went to the local BB here in Metro Atlanta. Sure enough, it's $49.95!

Now I'm mad because I paid $99.00 for this already.

I'm holding this copy for a friend of mine to purchase when he has the money.

Some of these idiots need to stop making references to their pirated software - if you can get it, good, there is no need to flaunt it (it doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to get that stuff).

That's one of the reasons there are so little Software deal threads around...

Whatever. You're awful cool.

Good to see this deal isn't just a fluke at the Denver Best Buy. This is a killer deal for this software... All you twelve-year-olds who wanna brag about your pirated software, go ahead and bump it so others can take advantage of this deal.

This must have been regional...I tried to buy it at BestBuy
in the Boston, MA area...Box was marked $199.99, and it scanned
at $199.99...So that box went back on the shelf!

Wish I could have gotten a copy for $50...That would have been
sweet...

i think the sale was for last week ($149), so when the prices updated, back it went to $199
however the fact that anandtechers found about it this late, plus the response of others as well leads me to believe this product may not be selling well and may fall in the future
wishful thinking, perhaps?
