This one cost me $595 plus shipping to my house (I have a C&R FFL).
Doesn't the CMP make you join a garand club and complete some training course to buy from them, though?

$750
Which appears to be a steal since they seem to go for new at around $1300+.
This one is used, but its in great condition.
Very nice. Springfield trophy match's are decent 1911's. good score. I have a service grade and a collector grade garand myself, both are wonderful shooters (but I try not to shoot the collector grade much).
I recently was able to score a new in box but never fired S&W 686 4" for $300 (gotta love when other people go through a divorce and have to liquidate) a couple of weeks ago. Already developed some handloads and got about 6,000 rounds loaded up and stored for it, its a great shooting little handgun. Pic - http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4107/4962181832_3ed4892c5a.jpg
still too broke to move out of mom's basement though right? good to see your priorities are straight.
Nice buy! I love those guns. Get rid of that ugly black rubber grip and put some nice rosewood grips on it and then have the front strap checkered.

There are several requirements which you can find on their site. http://www.thecmp.org/eligibility.htm
I met the requirements with the following -
You have to be a member of one of the many clubs on their list. I joined the Garand Collector's Association for $25 a year.
I have a C&R FFL.
Yeah, I was looking into this a few months ago. I don't have a problem joining the GCA, but you also need a form certifying you know how to handle a rifle (or, I suppose, a CCL or some other firearms license, which I don't have) and in my small town there isn't anyone who can sign off on the form, nor is there anyone close by.
Too much hassle.
Hmmm, looking at the requirements, I fit:
- Member of GCA.
- And perhaps "Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion)". I took a pistol safety and live fire shooting class and got a certificate, but this was 2 summers ago.
Front strap is checkered and it's very sharp (as in pointy). I think thats why the original owner put the hogue wraparounds on it.

Love my Garand, wish I had an outdoor range closer.
