I ordered this from NewEgg for $39.99 (last night) and didn't see this post until this morning. It still shows as $9.99 at the link above, so I hope I can just return it to NewEgg......

It is a good product and does imaging perfectly when used properly.

Not true at all. Acronis True Image USED to be a great product, but for each of the last couple of verisons it has been more and more buggy bloatware. Also, if past practices are any indication, this version will be free after rebate just before the new version rolls out. IMO it's questionable whether it is even worth that anymore.

If you do decide to use Acronis, stay far far away from the continuous backup feature. That caused me many wasted hours with their support before I gave up on it. Also, be sure to test your backups. A backup software that can't reliably restore is worse than using nothing at all, for it gives false confidence.

I purchased it last time it was on sale for $9.99.
I have to agree with kmmatney it is bloated.
I called them and asked if there was a way to only have image software since the name is image.
I was told they thought so, go look on our downloads.
That and have a nice day.

like I said its only $10 but its just too much stuff and my computer was slow with it installed. I uninstalled it and now I hear they have fixed the problem.

pcslookout I wish I knew how you got only the imaging software installed from the dl?

It sounds as if he is only using the bootable recovery media to make backups. Usually you make the recovery media after you install the image program.

I agree that Acronis has become too bloated for me. I use to like the simple interface in version 9 and 10, but starting with version 11+, it became harder to use for doing a simple image. I've used Paragon twice now with no issues. Speed is about 10% slower, but not a big deal for me. I like software that is simple and not bloated.

I'm just wondering how hard it is to do a simple image compared to previous versions?

Just asking because I used it last night to clone an SSD -> SSD and it was click to open the program, click on the Tools and Utilities tab, click Clone Drive, choose source and destination drives, then OK.

About as simple as it could possibly be and fast.

I've used 2012 on 2 comps and haven't had any issues. Cloning went perfectly and backups have run fine. You can run incrementals/differentials and schedule backups too, which most free solutions won't let you do

As far as doing a simple clone, it works fine. Our problem was that all the memopry-resident bloatware caused our computer to grind to a halt, and we wasted many hours and spent hundreds of dollars shipping new computers to Taiwan before we figured out what the problem was. Our problem was similar to this issue:

But the fix given in the forum doesn't work, and in the end we had to have a new "ti_managers_proxy.dll" file sent to us.

I hope not either, a job in the service industry is more fulfilling. I just purchased this product and it appears to be doing a differential backup on a schedule of my choosing. The rub is how do I properly test a restore... must I wipe my drive? *sigh* such is the nature of backup procedures...
