For what it's worth, I use Ghost 2003 and just a few days ago I restored a partition that contained my OS (XP Home) to a new drive. The old drive went down, but I had made a C drive image beforehand on a separate physical drive. Restoration went without a hitch and I gotta tell ya, Ghost 2003 is faster than Acronis 8. But keep in mind that Ghost 2003 does backups and restorations in DOS. I haven't tried across a network yet so I can't vouch for that one.

Oh yeah, Ghost 2003 couldn't be any simpler to use, IMO.
never works for me

and i never do any setting but the basics

Sorry, am not acquainted w/Ghost 9.0
Besides that, I understand that G9.0 is actually DriveImage and I've used that since it's infancy, however, never liked it...

I have ghost 2003. I can't get it to find my raid disks so it isn't much use to me. Anyone use true image on a raid drive in dos mode yet? I would rather take all steps possible to avoid trouble like doing through windows.

The price of drives comming down I want to put larger drives in my raid array. So I am keeping an eye on this type of software.

I'm not going to look for it but I think somewhere on their website it says that Ghost doesn't support RAID (it does but you have to create some special boot disk with all your drivers and stuff. . I'm not positive but I thought I read that somewhere.

Acronis does support RAID. I've used the trial version to do an emergency backup of a Dell server in RAID5 (In Windows, the trial doesn't support image creation in DOS) so I could rebuilt the bad RAID container.

Check the forums I posted above to see if it supports your specific hardware RAID. It supports most common types.

I just got True Image 8.0 and "cloned" a 20G drive with 2 partitions to a 120G drive with absolutely no problem. I was able to size the partitions on the new drive as I wanted. Running Win2K Pro if that matters. There is a difference between cloning a drive and creating an image.

I agree with lazarus000, well almost I used to use Ghost and ever time I tried to clone an old boot drive to a new drive, the new drive would never boot. I had the same problems with DriveImage. IIRC, I finally cracked the code on DriveImage, you had to do things exactly in the correct order. It liked it best if the drive was blank, like a new drive but if it had a drive letter or something then it failed.

Tried Acronis a few weeks ago to clone an old drive to a new drive flawlessly and easily. Then used it last week to do the same with the added manual resize of partitions. Popped the drive in and worked perfectly, and this was not a new or clean drive. I just didn't like the jumping through hoops and ooops, I did one little thing wrong aspect. As far as imaging, I don't do that much, cloning is what I mostly uses these apps for.

EVERY time i have tried anything with arconis, it has failed....if i try to burn an image, it says that the burnable media is corrupt or the disk conatins bad sectors, and it won't even succesfully burn a bootable rescue CD....this program has been nothing but trouble for me.

Just curious if the people that are having problems with Acronis are using the downloaded version?
I ordered the CD version and not had any problems.

Do any of the programs in this discussion work with the 64bit version of Windows Pro ?

Across a home network is an option if that is supported.
The couple I tried and researched would not even setup.

Thanks
