Acronis True Image equivalent for OS X?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a nice backup solution for my new macbook. In the office I use True Image a lot, it has saved me over a dozen times from system crashes and I completely trust Acronis (it helped me restore Windows servers in less than 30 minutes, with absolutely no issues).

Is there anything out there similar for OS X?

Carbon Copy Cloner. The main issue is if you use filevault, you will end up wasting LOTS of space.

I second CCC.

If Time Machine, in OS X 10.5, is everything that it claims to be, you should just be able to set that up to do automatic backups.

Thanks! I see tha CCC need an HSF+ partition, but my external hdd uses FAT32 (so I can share it with any PC). I guess I'll have to get a bigger external drive and set up an HSF+ partition dedicated to mac backups.

I recommend SuperDuper! for the reasons described here and here.

SuperDuper! has an almost fully functional version for free that omits the smart backup mode and scheduling. After reading the review above, I decided to use SD! and it's not failed me in over a year of using it. Just yesterday I received a new MacBook Pro from my employer (I was using my personal one) and used SD! to copy my old MBP's HD contents to my new MBP and it worked great.

CCC is great. Also, if you boot from another device (external HDD, Mac OS X DVD-ROM, etc) you should be able to use Disk Utility to make an image of the partitions you want to preserve.

Great! I'll give it a try. I've just put together a 160GB hdd in a USB enclosure, so I'm gonna use that.

BTW, can SuperDuper restore individual files?

I would recommend SuperDuper over CCC. I have had some strange issues over the last few months with CCC and SuperDuper has always worked fine when I tried it.

You may also want to look at iBackup. I have been using it for 6-8 weeks now and it seems to work great.
