I got this a couple weeks ago. Did my fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) today and installed acronis. I go to the backup wizard and choose the drives I want to back up, hit next and it crashes. I submited this to their support site. Honestly, even if they give me a solution, my trust is low here.

Change the Default Value:
Tools->Options->Local Storage Settings->Free Space Threshold. I found that mine was set to notify me when disk space remaining was less than 50 TB that will fix the issue

I really like Acronis software except for one thing. It doesn't come with an uninstaller, and it's almost impossible to remove it entirely from your system.

I tested Acronis out the other day, cloned my old 200GB drive that was about full to a new 1TB Samsung F3. Worked great, pulled out the old drive and the new one has worked flawlessly. Not sure about the other functions, but the drive cloning appears to work well.

Does this have to be installed onto the system? Or can you just boot off a disc and use it to clone? Wondering if I can use this in a service capacity to back up people's disks.

I don't think it will work but i have never tried it on the new version so you should check it out - i believe they have a trial version.

I got the Best Buy Acronis deal and ran it from the disk to copy a partition from one hard drive to another--worked slick.

I already ordered but what I am interested in is being able to make a complete backup of my C drive for my laptops and kids PC's so if and when they crash, I can restore to a pristine state from the external hard drive.

Am I off base?

Is there a simpler way?

Do I need a separate copy for each PC?

can you clone to a smaller disk with this? i want to migrate a vista install to SSD but have read you need as big or bigger drive to do this. any recomendations?

I've tried a bunch of versions for network backups and they all fail. I would suggest that anyone who uses this program set it up to validate your backups. It backed up fine to a local disk or to a USB drive, but over the network I could never get it to validate...and support is non-existent.

back in the day.... used Veritas (Symantec) Backup Exec. Seemed to work well to tape over a network. Did some disaster recovery and it worked slick. i know alot has changed but thats my $.02
