I know that this is available for free from Seagate or WD, but that is tied to HDs that are only made from each maker, so you need to have a Seagate or WD HD hooked up to use the software...

Well, this isn't tied to any HD brand, so it is a better version than what they offer.

Deal is for this Friday (1/20/12) now!

Yes, this is the 2010 Personal version.

Ooo... marked. thanks!

Acronis is everyone's favorite backup program at work [we dumped Norton Ghost to the side of the road as a replacement]

I imaged a few drives to SSD and it worked just fine. (Kingston includes this with a lot of their SSD's). Works fine.

Acronis - Perfect for consumer use. Easy to use to get an image made of a machine. Not necessarily a backup tool or a mass deployment tool.

Symantec System Recovery provides backup scheduling to create and update images that can be written to a drive (bare metal restore, hardware independent). You can also browse recovery points to restore individual files.

Ghost is an enterrpise image/cloning tool for mass deployment of standardized images.

Just found out that this does NOT work within windows if you are using bootcamp. Acronis throws an error message when you try and start it.

Does anyone have any cloning or just back up experience with this version, in respect to SSDs?

If the SSD was formatted in vista/win 7, then it should be aligned correctly, so in theory, Acronis should preserve the partition layout.
Haven't tried this specific version, so If it does this automatically for SSDs, dunno, however, all that needs to be done is to have a 1MB offset at the start.

If you go with the deal to "upgrade" to the 2012 version for $20, then that does fully support SSDs from what I understand.

Installed and backed up a win7 ssd 5 minutes ago, no problems. Not sure about cloning vs. just backing up though.

I registered, got the code and then registered the code at Acronis and it showed up as legit.

Acronis labels the license code as:
Acronis True Image OEM Activation (English) 1 license(s)

Great deal. Thanks for posting it.

And someone asked if it plays ok with SSD's and the answer is yes. I used Acronis True Image 2012 to image and restore an Intel SSD a couple of months ago and it was fine.

Thanks OP!

Keep in mind that since this is the OEM version, not everything is unlocked. You can't do any cloning with this version. Pretty much everything that isn't basic backup and restore is locked out unless you upgrade.

Still one of the best consumer backup programs though!

True Image Personal 2010 is actually a cut down version of the regular application. There’s no support for incremental or differential backups, for instance; the scheduler only supports a “weekly” option; and the program can’t run the System State, Email or Application Settings backup type. These options are still displayed on the menus, but are greyed out. If you’d like to upgrade and get access to all of these features, and more, click “Get the full version” on the toolbar and follow the instructions.
