Act of kindness?

Okay, I'll make this simple; I did something today, which is trivial really, but personally I feel really terrible for it and I want to make it up; not to anyone specifically, since I did no one any harm, but I want to do it for myself. All I have right now is a $1 to my name, and about a day's worth of free time tomorrow.

Any sugestions?

A random stranger walking up to you and giving comments about your physical appearence . . . yeeeah.

That'll land my ass in jail quick.

Edit: Not, that I didn't appreciate your post, I just don't think it's be a real "safe" way to go about it.

Nope. I didn't commit any crimes, I didn't hurt anyone's feelings.

Okok, just say that I have this incredible urge to do a (not quite, I suppose) random act of kindness on some stranger. Just to brighten up their day.

Now is it okay to give me suggestions? Please?

I'm just razzin' ya, man. The best thing you can do is pray for wisdom and listen to your heart. Don't question it -unless an act of kindness is to releave the burden of breathing from someone you hate.

Unless getting the book, paying the next person's (as well as my own) toll, and paying for the gasoline to drive out to the nearest tollway (~80 miles) is under $1, it ain't happeneing.

Either you're hopelessly delusional, or didn't even bother to read the entire post.

Congratulations!

Why do you think you would be arrested for complimenting people?

It's not the intent that's in question; but rather you also have to consider how the other people are going to take it -

Use the example I used - if someone walked up to me, out of nowhere and said something like "you're cute" - I'd think she's a little socially . . . off. And frankly, I've had that happen. And it's for any other kind of physical compliment - it makes the person a little nervous and makes them more self-conscious. I don't live in delusional worlds where everyone reads everyone else's intent automatically, nor do I expect anyone else to. *coughskywalker66cough*

Where do I even begin with that? Do I go into a random building and say "hey you, yes complete stranger that has never seen me before in your life, I want to volunteer . . . to help!"

You want want a less predatory compliment, something more like "You look very nice today."
While some people might wonder why you would just randomly compliment them, most normal people would just say "Thanks" and move on.
Despite the weirdos who might question your motives, you could not possibly be arrested for doing this.

If you're simply concerned that people will think you're a whacko, first consider that you posted this thread seeking to correct some dire karmic imbalance by performing random acts of kindness. That's pretty whacky right off the bat. In fact, I think that's whackier than complimenting people.

Don't be so obtuse. Obviously, contact a local service organization like Kiwanis or Habitat For Humanity or a community theater and ask them how you can help them out.
