Path of Exile is a free online-only action role-playing game set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. Development by Grinding Gear Games in New Zealand, Path of Exile is now released!

I was looking at this the other day, and signed up to get into the beta. It looks like a very interesting game, I really like the idea they have for the ability to have different game types that fall back to the standard game, but I have not yet understood how they intend to monetize it, and that has me worried.

Looks interesting, but I with the "left click, then press "1", "2", "3","4", "5","6" " type combat would just die in a grease fire already. It was even annoying in titan's quest, an overall good game.

The "diablo 2 school of combat" would work better, or maybe they can mix it up a bit and introduce 2~3 different pools of mana, each for a different skill tree, and make the quantities for each pool smaller than if it was one pool, to force the player to use multiple skills.

I do realize that's asking a lot from a free mmorpger, but yeah, no innovation, no thanks.

D2 IIRC used hot keys to swap out what skill was on your right and left mouse button, so it was click F1,F2,F3 then right click. It encourages you to pick 2 skills and use those most of the time.
As for the mana pools idea, I think I would like that a lot better then cooldowns that most games seem to be going to.

So far it is really good. It is a beta so there are some problems, with the fixed view point being the worst of them. We are waiting for the 0.9.3 patch to come out next week which will implement have a lot of changes. If you want to try it sign up, they are giving out lots of keys, and will step it up even more when the new patch hits.

Signed up in early August.. No sign of a key for either of my two accounts. I was hoping to play this before the mad rush of November games :\.

I read through the FAQ on the website and lol at the following. The game looks cool, but they really shouldn't advertise that THESE are the aspects that set them apart from the rest when, which small exception, Diablo 1 and pretty much every Diablo clone since then do pretty much exactly the same thing. Path of Exile is cookie cutter Diablo with a few tweaks. They should just say that.

Countless things make Path of Exile different, but here is a short list of the ones we feel most set us apart.

• A gritty dark fantasy setting, supporting a hostile cutthroat atmosphere.
• Free to play on online servers with persistent character storage in a secure economy.
• A unique active skill system that will allow any class to use any skills in the game and augment/combine them how they see fit.
