Anyone still playing this? I am going to be reinstalling this when I get home. I am just hoping my EK build is still good!

I could maybe see playing this again some day. Would really like to play some maps and my softcore toons are not too far short of that point.

I will be playing the new 4mo challenge leagues, new content along with skill balance changes should bring some new life to the increasingly stale meta.

Its been a while since I've played. I kinda screwed up my first character and should probably rebuild. But theres a new mini-expansion coming out next month so hopefully I get to put some time into it.

I'm back on the PoE train for a little bit at least as well. I'm level 25~ in the month hc race goin on. leveling as ek isnt too bad, not the quickest but w/e I enjoy using different skills.

I have an 82 EK Scion that is pretty nice. Damn near invincible with Arctic Armor plus 3 auras and MoM. =)

Played a good bit last night and did a few maps (after spending like an hour managing my tabs from the now defunct league into the standard league).

My EK build is still lacking in DPS (partly because I am missing a 6L) and partly because EK is just not particularly strong. I believe the build works better now on a Shadow, so I might reroll for that. I decided to put in a Flame Totem to help with the damage. Did a few maps and leveled mine from 1 to 10 pretty quickly. It still gets one shot by mobs, but the damage isn't awful (it helps I have a level 10 added chaos damage on it as well).

I had picked it up a couple of weeks ago again but I ended up dropping it due to desync. They should fix it.

I have given up ever not having desync issues in 'modern' ARPG. D3 hasn't found a way to fix it yet (although, they are much better about it than PoE) and PoE is really bad about it.

People act like it's the code stuttering or getting out of sync, when it is high latency and/or packet loss.

My EK is 88 and does huge (for an EK build) damage (think I was up to 9k, started around 6k end game). Dreading going back on and having to merge inventory.

I do love my EK though; my buddy had some ridiculous DPS where everything just instantly died... including him when any reflect mob appeared. We were both 76 running together, and he NEVER hit 77, while I got to 88.

From my understanding the reason it's so noticeable is because they created their own engine and it's not as rock hard as other none basement-made ones, but hey, we could argue about all this stuff we know almost nothing about all day long

Your position on the client and on the server are not in sync, thus desync... This isn't entirely due to latency. Even with low latency, it happens to me on both Diablo 3 and PoE (although, it happens a lot more on PoE). Early games didn't have this problem (like in Ultima Online) because movement wasn't handled on the client. Each step in any direction was verified by the serve immediately, causing you to rubberband only a single step at a time, as the verification failed. In modern games, you are allowed to continue your movement in client and once it is verified by the server, it is corrected on your client. This is why in WoW, you can run off in a direction a ways before you either lose connection or resync up. For some reason though, this is a very hard concept to keep in line on an ARPG. I don't know why though, as I don't really code games, let alone ARPGs. I much prefer enterprise (read as: actually useful) coding.

Yeah, I am 82 and am only around 5k dps with EK. I have just started using a totem and that is boosting it, but the only support gems I have on it are chaos damage and cold damage (both fairly low level). I do have a ton of survivability though. MoM + fully leveled AA is really good.

While you could say the client and server are not in sync, that isn't exactly true. Your client just isn't updated on the server for whatever reason (high latency, packet loss, etc). The problem isn't that the two are not in sync, but that your information is not reaching the server in a timely manner... do you blame the code for that?

'Desync' makes it sound like your packets are getting to the server regularly, but the server is on a different cycle or something and doesn't read them normally. I've never seen anything like that, in 35 years of gaming and 4 years of client/server programming.

Do I blame the code? Yes. PoE suffers from extensive issues where my client (and a lot of other people's clients) are not updated properly to reflect what the server has. D3 has this issue a bit, and it mostly involves movement based skills like teleports.

This could be simply an issue of PoE hosts all their servers in New Zealand or it could be because they can't handle the constant need to sync regularly as efficiently as Diablo.

And saying the client and the server are out of sync is the exact same as the client and the server aren't in the same state with the same information. Saying desync sounds like they go out of sync, even if, but the vary nature of the internet, they are always out of sync, you just don't notice it (as information doesn't travel instantly between the two). The two merely are not synchronized well enough that it impacts the experience, and it happens a lot in PoE. It doesn't happen nearly as much in other online games.

Looks like I am the only person still interested in this game. =(

Made an Arc Witch and wow that is OP! Only level 41, but man do I rip through things. Oh, and I found a Moonsorrow wand a while back I've just been letting sit in the stash. Didn't notice it until around 20. Can't wait to use that bad boy!

Expansion is due out in less than 3 weeks. New content, crafting, revamped bosses. Should be good. As much as I gripe about the production value, there isn't a ton I can complain about gameplay wise.

Had an archer I took through the first difficulty and half of the second difficulty before getting sidetracked to something else. Downloaded the client recently, logged in, discovered that my characters had been completely wiped. The names were still there but all were level 1 with no gear of any sort in inventory. Boo!

So, what are currently the good builds?

It wasn't until open beta that progress stayed I believe.


The "good" builds I've found are shadow using EK (great for hardcore, as this build stacks life and defensiveness abilities, but the damage is a tad low unless you get great gear and a 6 link) and I've found that Lightning witch is really good so far. Arc is pretty amazing (lightning and it chains with no damage reduction, plus shock stacking) I just mow through things. I believe there is a good spectral throw build as well, but mine isn't amazing.

Right now is the best time to try though. There will be an optional skill reset in 3 weeks when the expansion hits (they are changing up the grid some).

Lots of other but those are probably the 2 most popular. The expansion on august 20 will likely change things around a bit though and if they nerf auras then ele ST could be a lot worse.

RNGesus has never been my friend, so I've always relied on playing the market in games. PoE is just too obtuse when it comes to trading, so I just play with my crappy loot. =)

It is the common currency. I think it is 25 chaos : 1 EX right now, or around there. I might have that many chaos by now, but I have yet to find and EX. I have a few uniques that might command that price though. =)

Waiting for the new patch and new leagues now that it's close. I logged in to half of my characters with forced passive resets and the other half were all just partially through playing the last set of challenge leagues. Holy inventory/stash Charlie-Foxtrot. I had a lot of crap on my non-default guys.

I deleted back down to a manageable stable of characters, all in Standard, and will wait. There are more passive tree changes coming, so it's pointless for me to reallocate everything on the old characters just to have to do it again in a few days. I am left with my Spectral Throw Scion (63) and my duelist, who I think was based on a modified Blender build. He's 70 something, a product of the SC challenge league before Ambush. I also have a Searing Bond Templar, but I have no idea if he's still viable. They buffed them, and then made some changes to counter some exploits, but they were still stupid easy and stupid strong.

I ditched my shadow and witch (summoner) because of the changes. I will try another summoner from scratch perhaps once I'm up to speed on all of the changes. Between all of the passive changes, changes to auras and summoning previously, plus the curse changes this expansion, it will be a totally different playstyle than it was.

Combined with all of the other changes, who knows what the FOTM will be for the leagues starting out. I'm not even sure what I will go with this time around, or if I'll stick with it. The HC league hasn't been unveiled yet, so no idea if I am going to enjoy it or even be able to give it a shot.

The SC league is based on building killstreaks and gaining benefits for doing so the higher you get your streak. It should be fun as hell, given what additions from the previous leagues were put into default that will show up here too. Hopefully, I'll grab a solid build idea and be able to get a character into maps again before I get bored.

Also, I'm looking forward to the revamped and improved boss fights.
