Got some lucky drops this week so I decided to craft a dagger, after stashes of currencies in.......

but it's just so much more exciting(painful) to make your own rather than buying, can't help it.

I'm getting the feeling that it might be best for me to save and buy rather than pray to RNGeesus. I played D2 for YEARS... never even found an SoJ. Played for a week two years ago... perfect windforce off diablo. Go figure.

Oh yeah, 9 out of 10 times buying is always the sane option, it simply takes absurd amount of orbs and luck to craft something properly.

But, if you want some kind of top 5 item, it is likely going to be cheaper. Even a mirror service costs a ton.

Most items can't roll the best mods until item level 70+ish depending on the item. I personally think its waste of currency to try and craft mods on items that will never be able to roll the best mods.

PoE Mods will show you what mods an item will be able to have.

This is what keeps those in the know in exalts. If you are trying to craft something from a white base, it is going to be expensive as hell, because you'll probably scour the item after using exalts on it (trying to get perfect or wanted mods).

I've made a ton of great gear, including a 57 IIR ring with 20 all resists 60 life and crit. Here's how I mainly craft :

1. Look for weapons with flat physical damage and other good rolls. For example, I pick up all blue Harbinger bows and ID them. If they have flat phys like 'adds 30-50 physical' and another good roll (attack speed, crit), I'll save it in a 'crafting tab'. Ilvl 77 is best, but you can still make insanely high damage bows with lower ivls.

Regals are like candy once you start doing high level maps, so I'll regal the bow in the example above to see if I get another great roll. If so, I'll either exalt it for more mods, or use the Elreon multiple crafted mods on it. If the regal added mod sucks, I'll vendor it.

2. Pick up ALL gold rings and amulets. That one out of one hundred that has double IIR rolls - regal for sure. You can make better IIR rings from these than Andivirus (sp?).

3. Armor is worthless unless it's 5 or 6 linked, so even if you find something with 110 health and three 40%+ resists, it sucks. Trying to 6L something will cost a LOT of orbs, unless your extremely lucky.

The better way is to buy a white or cheap 6L, then spend 100 chaos orbs on it to get great rolls. Instead of spending 1500 fusings (around 22 exalts worth) on Vorici to 6L, or even 500 if you are lucky (7 exalts); 100 chaos orbs (2.5 exalts) is cheap (and easy if you do the chaos orb recipe).

I do something similar, except I keep a high iLVL bow I hit with alts ever now and again trying to hit two iLvl 73 mods. I also pick up all Harbingers and hit them with a trans just in case before tossing them.

Definitely not gonna try for 4x T1 crafts, by the time I farm up the currency the temp league would be over . A 260 pdps 8.5% crit dagger should probably be enough to carry me to Uber(if I can play well, so...no).

However even that is a pretty daunting task since hybrid phys is no longer possible with masters, I'm about 1k alts in and only had 2 bad flaring/emperor's while a guildmate hit back to back solo flaring in just 40, gotta love it(not).

Thank you for all the tips, it's good info for a noob like me. Any tips on farming other than "kill stuff?". I just earned my first Exalt ever the other day, selling a bunch of crap to a guildie.

I generally run my 4-link in helm/gloves/boots, then buy the unique chest I want and spend time linking it to 5+. If you use armorer's scraps it doubles your chances to 5 and 6 link. I generally get a 5 link belly of the beast between week 1 and 2 of a new league.

How do you use armorer's scraps to link it?

I just found out today wind ripper > mjolner. Wut? I thought mjolner was the epitome of uniques but a guildie told me shavs is currently (torment).

Meanwhile...still noobing it up

Shav's is by far the best if you have currency to pour into your other slots. But I'd take a ripper just because it's pretty much all you need.

I'd take Atziri gloves, just so I can then sell them and buy Shavs and a ripper. >_>

Shavs you gotta build exclusively around it, but Acuity is the most op unique even after the nerf, all you gotta do is crit.

Whatever you like

For me the most fun I have had was on a Tornado Shot/Puncture Ranger in one of the HC leagues.

Here is a nado shot guide from the forums. Although the guide is written for a softcore league, it still has tons of good info.

Here is a link to gem setup and passives from ZiggyDs hardcore Tornado Shot build. This one doesn't have near the amount of information so I would still read the first guide and just use this one for passives and gem setup. The first video in this guide does a great job of explaining the mechanics of Tornado shot.

I run Tornado shot right now as well (mostly because my Arc build was nerfed and I'd rather someone else do the leg work to make it viable again). It is fun. I actually preferred Split Arrow, but that required Puncture. Tornado Shot is viable as a single target as well, due to the shotgun effect of it being OP.

Also for those who may not know there is a an app from the community called procurement that will help you create and maintain a shop. This is the best way to generate currency by selling are your goodies you have found. The videos on that site give you the basics of how to use it. There is also a video that shows some of the more advanced feature of procurement.

Also use http://poe.trade/ to buy any upgrades you may need.

Most people that have been playing for awhile already know this stuff but those of you that are just starting will find this stuff helpful.

And, anyone who hasn't done this or is stuck in the "I put in hours but remain poor" phase, please download this and start using it. Along with poe.xyz or some similar indexing site to constantly price check your items, as I'm sure you're vendoring an exalt or two a day at least.

So is most everyone playing ranger these days? Or are other classes viable/fun? I'm in the same boat as JEDI, thinking about getting back into it. But last I played was in the closed beta so I'm sure my leveled toons are gone, starting fresh and playing through normal the best path?

I don't see very many rangers in the random map groups TBH. Quite a few people seem to be using an elemental buzzsaw build or a cast on crit build. I occasionally see the rare arc witch, though. Well, not since 1.3 came out, but before that.

Oh and if you're looking to get back in, see if someone is willing to trade you one of Elron's rings for leveling. -8 mana cost is OP for leveling.
