You can install the client now for the stress test weekend, in case anyone's wondering. I'm hoping that they pass out a bunch more keys to people to help them stress test this weekend. We shall see. Been waiting for this one for a while.

Got a chance to play the open beta (stress test, whatever) this weekend. Was pretty enjoyable. Graphics/sound are both very good, and the insanely huge passive skill tree, while a little overwhelming, is definitely something that would increase the replayability for me. At the end of the day, it's another Diablo clone, right down to the inventory management and loot whoring, but D3 is getting horrible press, so that can't be a bad thing right now. Anyone have a beta key that they're not using?

Played the open beta weekend with 3 friends. Had a pretty good time, although in a party of 4 there's quite a lot of magic effects going off making it a bit hard to see what's going on.

But all in all a pretty good game. We'll definitely play it some more when it opens for good.

On a side note - seems to be rather intense on the GPU. One of my 6870'es hit 95C. I've only ever seen it that high before on Furmark.

That is insane. I'm running a single 570 (granted, it's a 3-slot monster with added cooling), but this game does NOTHING to my temps compared to what ME3 and BF3 can do (which also isn't anywhere near 95C).

GGG has released their store. cheapest item is $10 which gets you enough in the game to buy an extra character slot and extra tab in the shared stash, plus a BETA KEY.

https://www.pathofexile.com/purchase/

Bought. IMO this is a FANTASTIC deal. Gets you in NOW, and the game, despite still being in "closed" (not sure how you can call a beta that ANYONE can buy their way into closed, hence the quotes), is quite polished in my opinion. AND it gets you extra stash space (always useful), and that coveted second slot, which allows you to dick around without deleting your "main." This game is poised to be an excellent time sink for the next several years...

it sounds like open beta is pretty close. i think they wanted to have the next act (3) ready and the store completed (done).

FYI the game currently has only 2 acts, and can be finished in one sitting, still, a good opportunity to try out all the classes/test build and play harder difficulty modes.

Its actually taken me a lot longer to play through, but I'm pretty obsessive about exploring and a real hoarder. I can easily see how people can progress faster. It appears as if the game will be all about multiple play throughs, with the increasing difficulty levels, plus playing in the different leagues and competitions. As opposed to a single long campaign with tons of content.

I have been playing since last Friday and I am addicted. So damn fun.

Agreed, although haven't had time to play much this week. It's only two acts right now, and if you breeze through you can finish in one sitting, as noted above, but if you really get into the use of the various "orbs" and play the whole inventory/upgrade game-within-a-game, not to mention getting lost in the insanely deep talent tree, you can keep yourself busy with the beta for countless hours. Glad I bought a beta key ($10) to support their development, and looking forward to the release!

I don't understand how anyone can finish in one sitting. I've put in (guessing) about 20 hrs and have only started Act 2.

Ditto. But you could, in theory, just keep running through, only returning to town to turn in quests, never picking up anything that isn't an upgrade, and finish both acts in about 8-12 hours or so. Why anyone would want to do that is completely beyond me, but to each his own?

I just got into this game a few days ago.

I love-

The talent/skill tree system.

The freedom in builds and gear with no class restrictions.

The way skills are gems.

The potential fun of a cutthroat league. Or cutthroat hardcore league. However, haven't done any pvp yet, so that is why I qualify this with "potential".

I hate-

The developers lack of interest in any sort of real money auction house, and the economic system in general. Removing gold isn't going to fix anything, it just makes it annoying as hell to farm because farming at high level is only slightly faster than farming as a newbie. Lack of a real money AH will not stop money for item trades, but will penalize legit players and will make it easier for farmers to make money farming. Bad.

Inventory size. So annoying, you pick up 6 items and you are full sometimes. Look at grimrock for a great inventory limiting system. You need strength to carry more stuff. It's annoying as hell that my 200 str Templar can carry the same amount of stuff as my 15 str witch.

Potion spam. Nerf damage all around so we don't NEED to spam potions, reduce the rate at which potions fill, limit the potion bar to 2 potions (maybe 3), and add a 1 minute cooldown on using potions. It's just a dumb game of "hit your potion key every 10 seconds" with the current system.

Overall, I am highly addicted right now, but the parts of the game I don't care for too much will probably cause me to switch over to D3 when it comes out.

Don't tell me the thread died now that I finally got the game

Kinda losing interest in it for the time being because rumors are the major beta patch coming up in a week is going to cause a legacy migration, more or less a player wipe. I don't want to level up yet another character just before starting over.

I played the game for a long while and loved it, but haven't played in about 4 months now, I quit right after the patch that let you sell things. But if it is anything like when I was playing expect a legacy migration every few weeks. It is the price you pay for playing a free beta.

I agree with most of your assessments of the game. Here is mine:

Barter system: I initially liked the idea of the barter system, but now I think the it is unwieldy and ultimately makes the game less fun. They basically replaced one currency for a dozen, and now I have to manage a bunch of different 'coins' so to have the right type of coin to buy the items I want. Maybe this has gotten better, but when they first put it in it was too much of a pain to bother with.

Inventory: At first it was a pain. But it quickly becomes much less of one when you realize you don't really want anything. I think that is what made me quit more then anything. Nothing was really worth picking up.

Fixed aspect ratio and camera: Why would you make a 3d game and not let me zoom out of the claustrophobicly tight view?

As for the potions, I think that managing potions is intended as a major part of the game. As you get higher level you get magical potion bottles that give you buffs so you don't just drink potions to heal but manage which potion to drink from to get the buff you need at the time.

Yeah I love the game but the reason why I don't want to play anymore is because at the end they're player wiping... Can't wait to play again.

I just keep playing my legacy chars. I actually like that the wipe just shifts your characters' league, opposed to D3 where everything is completely gone.

I feel the same disinterest knowing all my accomplishments are eventually void, but im still finding new skills and trying new characters and I cant stay away...

Another open weekend this weekend, stress test for impending open beta.

I've got a few friends who are into it lately but it sounds pretty bland to me, I get the impression they're just gear farming the same areas repeatedly.
