Wow, looked at Steam and I have over 250 hours on this game already (and that doesn't count all the preSteam play). I thought I had put in far less time.

I got my first EX the other day through trading. Yay for legacy gear! More likely to come from that. I got quite a few regret orbs that are going to skyrocket once the patch hits.

I'm pretty pumped for the new leagues. Just got to 83 in the one month, maybe I can hit 90 in these new leagues.

The new masters will be interesting. But the best news is that strongboxes will be back in the game! Very, very pumped for that

what does Steam have to do w/this game now?

The game is now on available on Steam (and payment processing, if you choose to do microtransactions from in the Steam version of the client) and it updates / tracks time. I've played on and off since open beta, and eventually switched to the Steam version. I was just surprised I had so many hours put into the game since then.

The skill tree will be changing when the expansion is released today anyhow. You should get a free passive respec and be able to choose your points again. However, I'd recommend starting in one of the new leagues. Rampage and Beyond both sound pretty fun. Beyond is a hardcore league though just to warn ya.

Also, with the leagues, while you do start over, you don't actually lose your progress at the end of the league. Your characters and stash get reverted to Standard / Hardcore when the league finishes.


As far as the tree, what you should do is plan out your build. Look for a big passive node you want, and plan the best way to get it. Sprinkle in life and damage of your choice on the way. On a caster, I generally always attempt to get Eldridge Battery, so I can stack mana and regen for Arctic Armor (so great for defense!). I have to find the best way (not necessarily the shortest way, as I still need life and damage nodes).

I'm only level 17. My only real complaint is sometimes they have a tree or whatnot and it blocks the view. your toon should never be under a tree ugh

Seems like the Arc nerf was exaggerated greatly! I still do great dps (helps to have a Geofri's Crest with an Empower gem).

Found 3 of the masters last night spamming docks (was actually looking for the corrupted things so I can get farm for another Midnight). I didn't spec crit, and I am not having any problems.

Still need to get a Cloak of Defiance though. Finally sold my legacy 30% Goldwyrm!


EDIT: Anyone doing the new leagues wanna party up? I haven't started a character on them yet, but I likely will.

Started playing again tonight; thought my playtime was around 170 hours... turns out that is 370 hours+ (only counting Steam time played).

Love the new chests you find, that act like maps - they are reg/blue, and can be upgraded by currency orbs. Found a blue Gemcutters chest with a +8 items dropped mod today... dropped 10 gems (at lvl 17 in a fresh economy), including a 17% EK and two other 10%+ gems.

Trying out a marauder dual totem build in rampage. Had a firestorm totem witch which (no pun intended :O) wasn't all that great, but like the idea of totems vs minions, so trying out a 30 minute build idea with a 85 cap. Think it will work well, since I'm the master of Decoy totem - nothing ever hit my EK Scion.

I got my money's worth from Diablo 3, but PoE is the spiritual successor to Diablo 2 imo. I can only imagine how great PoE would be in the minds of gamers if Blizzard made it.

is desync still a problem? i stopped playing largely due to that. but I might fire the game up again now that I am on more responsive internet. 40ms ping at the old place versus 10ms at the new. now if only i could get my idiot neighbor to take her wind chime down so I could hear the game over the constant ring ring ring ill be in good shape.

Desync is still there, and the only thing that really helps is creating a macro to type /oos for you with a single button press. It also helps a lot to hold shift every time you use a skill or attack.

Whirling blades and cyclone are still guaranteed desync.

Honestly, I still complain about desync on the PoE forums.
But it's not really that bad in the longer leagues. The reason that it's pretty negligible is that your DPS gets high enough that you one or two shot mobs and have no opportunity to create any desync.

However, it's still a huge killer in races. When I race at full speed it's generally a 50-50 chance that I will die from desync each race. I often don't go my fastest just so I can avoid that chance...

Apparently yes

I took a pretty long break after the patch (and been busy at work lately) spent so much time in this game, pretty fun while it lasted (couple of 90s toons, 88s, 85s, etc).

I've completed most of my goals so just taking it easy with races until the new leagues come out. Still haven't got to try Uber though, Aztiri's drop RNG was awful for me.

I still log in close to every day, but mostly still just leveling my masters with the daily.

I haven't tried another Aztiri after nearly failing the first one I did (I was on the last portal and managed to down her).

sounds just like my first kill as well, thought I was prepared but panic took over and ended up eating every other flameblast while using the wrong flasks.

Anyone who hasn't played this game needs to give it a try.
I think these PvP competitions are going to be seriously fun, and I'm looking forward to finding out if im any good or not!
