Can it only be Putin or does it include the medias fawning over Kim Yo Jong . Nothing like murdering your brother to get the left of center media sucking up to you.
What are you talking about? That incident only pointed out how much of a maniac he is. You won't find one story on news network speaking favorably about him unless it was Fox.

Please save making shit up for outside this thread.

Yes, but Trump did. All partisanship and allegations of collusion aside, it's probably a bad idea for any American presidential candidate to constantly praise a foreign dictator who has repeatedly proven hostile to the US. It tends to soften the resolve of the American people in doing anything whatsoever to counter what the Russians are doing.

I'm old enough to have watched the Cuban missile crisis unfold with my family in our living room. You are late to the party.

Being a 7 year old in a living room with your family at that time doesn't make you an expert. It just makes you old. Get off your lawn!

All Americans isn't relevant here. It's republicans who would put stock in what Trump has to say about Putin. And apparently plenty of them did as their approval of Putin went up +20 during the time Trump was talking him up. The cause-effect there is abundantly clear.
Thank you for being the sole source of what is relevant here.

You can debate over what is relevant all you want. What you can't do is deny the facts. Trump praises Putin at least 20 times publicly and during that same period of time, Putin's approval goes up among republicans by 20 points. You are just trying to avoid the facts by being glib.

Isn't this an active measures thread? A thread that includes not only Putin and Russia, but N. Korea, China and others political entities that work against the interests of the United States?

Don't feed the trolls, its what they want.

Neither tajbot or incorruptible (not sure which troll is causing the current dust up) have any intent of having an honest discussion. They get off on the attention and being called stupid.

All Americans were up 9% , or did you miss that? I'm happy to say that this particular Republican isn't one of them.

Republicans +20, Democrats -5, Independents +10. Works out to a net of +9. The right and left went in opposite directions. I'm glad you are not among those with favorable opinions among the right (still a minority), but pointing to overall +9 doesn't help your argument.

Somewhat true, but it's temporary polling popularity based on media reports from a pretty specific timeline. My argument is that we need to take action, up to and including military action, to oppose states that interfere in our interests.

I’m giving Taj a little credit, he has begun to wake up to the Trump Bullshit. Small, small steps but there are definite steps being made

You mean "media reports" of Trump repeatedly praising Putin. Amazing how you can blame the media for reporting on what Trump says, but not Trump himself.

Kinda like the Obama quote where he whispered "After my election I have more flexibility........." to be told to Putin?

I had things to say about the Trump administration in my response but thought better of it. The thread's explicit intent is to have a non-partisan exploration of Russia's actions rather than political partisanship. There are a billion other threads where such discussions are pertinent. Can we stick to Russian actions in this one?

Trump is only a pawn in this game. He could stroke out tomorrow and this Russian influence problem would still be here.

Don't lay all this at the doorstep of the Russians, leaving them clothed in the appearance of the Dark Side Evil Empire.

It started with Goebbels, Harold Laswell, and some others in the early half of the 20th century. After the defeat of the Reich, CIA "rescued" sociologists, psychologists and others who had worked under Goebbels, just as they picked up von Braun for the NASA programs.

They spent about $1 billion per year for 16 years between 1945 and 1960 to develop and refine psy-war and propaganda practice. The JFK assassination was the blow-back of some of this, but not the conspiracy-a-go-go involving the upper echelon of the agency.

The Russians didn't have the social laboratory to conduct the experiments that the American academics working for CIA had available. No pluralistic media; a total autocracy in which citizens would know the origins of everything that appeared in the news.

After the end of the Cold War, the Russians may have figured out the underlying connection between the movie "Manchurian Candidate" and the assassination of the president a year after the film release. They may have misinterpreted it, thinking that it was "conspiracy-a-go-go" and a CIA monster-plot.

Now -- they've caught up -- the Russians have caught up. Congress put the kibosh on the CIA initiatives in the mid-70s as a result of the Senate Intelligence (Church) Committee hearings. Things you see in the media today, like the Bourne Trilogy, Legacy and "Jason Bourne", are the myth derived from all the factual threads. I would suspect that some folks see the Bourne movies and develop a set of assumptions about today's CIA. That's probably a source of the paranoia and "Deep State" fantasies of the Alt Right.

Still deflecting, this time with more whataboutism. When unable to respond, bring up either Hilary Clinton or Obama. Which only works in your own mind.

Back in 2015 this random intel guy, Ross Elder, wrote about his investigation into the Russian influence campaign and the links between RT, InfoWars, and the fringe right political groups similar to the Tea Party. He’s no liberal, that’s for sure but he clearly saw the threat and gives a pretty good back story on how the Kremlin found solid roots in the right wing media well before Trump came along.

Another good short read from the Rand Corporation on the weaponization of information and the threat.

Interesting and all, but it's pretty well-known at this point. Major newspapers cover this all time. Anyone who doesn't know probably doesn't want to know..
Top one is from 2015.

I was dismayed when Thom Hartman went to RT. He finally realized he was being used as a tool and left. Still affects my opinion of him.
