The "Inland Empire" is mostly "blue" in the cities and "red" in the county hinterlands. I hate our newspaper, and I am glad they've filed for bankruptcy and that the owner of the Chicago Tribune (and LA Times) was hoping to bid on it.

We're not new to this sort of thing. There had been the Christopher Dorner rampage, and not many years ago, a gang shooting inside a crowded mall.

That's a pretty horrifying chart when you think about it. That means we have so many gun homicides that killing people by the dozen basically doesn't make a dent.

Totally not misleading. It even captures the differences in reporting and definitions of mass shootings, as well as the differences in populations and demographics without resorting to cherry picking countries in the slightest.

If only the people at this location had their own guns to defend themselves. We need more people with guns to stop the bad guys with guns. Maybe even give some of the patients a gun so they can defend themselves too!

It's a "strange place" in many respects. Climate change deniers all over the place, but I remember the summer heat here in 1961 -- bad then, worse now.

Jihadists usually look for high demographic concentrations -- big cities like NY and Paris. What are they going to do here? Bomb a trans-shipment warehouse? An orange grove? A mall?

If you ask me, looking through history at the various "ages" like the "Age of Enlightment," the "Industrial Age," etc. -- this is the "Age of Insanity." The tradition goes all the way back to Charles Whitman. I don't include Lee Oswald, because I know who really did it, even if LHO in some way participated. Don't get me started.

So -- maybe somebody "went Postal." Have to wait and see while the CNN talking heads pass on new developments.

It means there are other variables at play than the relative lack of regulation of guns. The Czech Republic, included in that first chart, has gun laws roughly on par with a more strict American state.

If the report of three shooters is true and I have my doubt then that would rule out most of the workplace shooter situations and that would include someone with disabilities losing it.

Frankly, if three shooters were involved that would suggest a greater probability of ISIS inspired terrorists. It's not likely we'll see a full on Mumbai style attack as it would be hard for a group that large to get together and go unnoticed. But, three shooters is a more likely number versus the eight or so seen in the Mumbai and Paris attack.

I find the report that they had body armor interesting. It's legal to buy that stuff, but I think I know one person who owns some...it's not cheap.
