Definitely. I wonder if they had that much why stop when they did? The fact that they did not flee far, but back home where they had all of that stuff, makes me wonder if if was only the first step, with something much bigger planned.

That does seem likely. In any case it sounds like their plan and/or execution was badly flawed (thank God).

Probably.

Yeah, I'm not happy it turned out that way either, nor would I have been happy had it turned out to be a right wing nutjob. These killings are troubling, and not just because they are killings, though that is bad enough, but because they are also political in some way. Politically motivated killings have bad consequences which ripple out in society. For example, this kind of thing may motivate other radical Muslims to take similar action, and it will also undoubtedly cause the peaceful ones to face some resentment and discrimination, or even violence.

One thing is certain, we are facing a rather intense wave of mass killings in this country right now, and they seem to stem from a variety of different or even disparate motives. I don't have any solutions but would advise anyone against making any presumptions based on how they view the world beforehand because such presumptions may or may not serve them well.
Well stated.

In this case in So Cal, they found 12 pipe bombs in his home and 2000+ 9mm rounds, 2500+ .223 rounds for the AR15. This doesn't look like someone just stocking up to protect their house from a home invasion.

The question I really want to know is did he get radicalized when he went overseas into Pakistan/ Saudi Arabia? And how did he manage to gather that big an arsenal without getting on the government radar.

I all seriousness how does this look like something that should trigger government suspicion to you?

They bought pipe - that shouldn't be a red flag. I haven't heard what the explosive in the pipe bombs was but it could be homemade. Without any context of over what period of time the rounds were bought you can't make an argument that it should have triggered more review.

I'm not willing to support the level of surveillance required to cause these items to trigger additional government review.

Holy shit... sounds like my house except I'm missing the pipe bombs... And I have a wider choice in calibers.
With a handle like WackyDan, that was not the wisest thing to type on the interwebz. Enjoy the surveillance.

I don't have any solutions either either. I mean, except for the one glaringly obvious solution. http://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/the-simple-truth-about-gun-control

No, I do not agree that it is "simple" as the article suggests. Not in a society where there are already 100's of millions of guns already out there in the hands of private citizens. Perhaps gun banning could have worked had it been tried a long time ago but now I just don't think it's quite that cut and dry. Not here anyway.

you say that like it's a good thing or something to be boastful of. how sad.

I made that comment because someone linked to an article that implied 2000 rounds of 9mm and 2500 of .223 was a lot or unacceptable. Somehow non-gun owners think that anything more than a box of ammo on hand per firearm is some absurd amount that defies logic.

I was making a point. It was lost on you.

Well I skipped this reading over the link I posted earlier -

Syed Rizwan Farook -- one-half of the couple behind the San Bernardino shooting massacre -- was apparently radicalized and in touch with people being investigated by the FBI for international terrorism, law enforcement officials said Thursday.

That raises some questions, though I would like to know exactly what 'in touch with' means.

Alright, I'm going to side with Obama and chalk this one up to climate change at this point. Until he tells me otherwise of course. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings and I'm fairly certain that the climate doesn't have feelings so it seems like the safest route. It's always wise to accept the Current Truth.

Yes, it is. That we're unwilling to do it as a society, or that we value our ideals of gun ownership over the lives of innocent children is nothing but a choice we make. Sorry.

I was living in Singapore for 6 years and I saw what just 6 years did to sea levels on my favorite beach and it had nothing to do with tides. For low lying countries like The Maldives and the Marshall Islands it's a big issue as they're sinking beneath the ocean. Not related to this shooting but it's a big issue.

But thank you for showing everyone how your conservaterrorist minds work.. Bin Laden attacked us from Afghanistan and Pakistan is harboring him so we need to blame Iraq and invade.

Says the guy who is trying to cherry pick the data while simultaneously moving the goal posts!

Is there ever a time you aren't a hypocrite?
Lol, blaming all white people for mass shootings by tangential correlation with no contextual or demographic analysis to apportion actual responsibility while excusing muslims from bringing down 3 planes and two huge buildings and simultaneously calling somebody a hypocrite. That is a new form of batshit crazy.

Yeah, 6 years is such a huge contextual timescale. Glad you were able to use a large number of observational points to make statistically significant while controlling for other factors like erosion or micro weather changes.
