iirc, during some other recent spree killing (maybe Cho/VirginaTech?) there were initial reports of multiple shooters simply because of the frequency of shots. I can't really imagine a place like this being a target for religious terrorism.

Was this another attack by Syrian refugees? How many muslim extremists were involved?

If only the people at this location had their own guns to defend themselves. We need more people with guns to stop the bad guys with guns. Maybe even give some of the patients a gun so they can defend themselves too!

Sounds like a California Gun Control success story to me.

have they confirmed much? articles very widely. most say 1-3 shooters with heavy body armor.

So it's not nutcase who snapped. this is something planned. wonder the reasons for it?

The police radio so far says the suspect they want to question worked for the county and got up and left work early and that he fit the description of the or one of the shooters. Then some people in an office near the shootings say they saw 2 people undressing black clothing outside. So really nothing definitive yet at all.

Another day.... another mass murder.....

Didn't this start out a decadal occurence? It appears that we are quickly racing towards daily occurence.

They're not saying much about multiple shooters at this point and if that pans out then a single shooter brings this right back to a workplace shooting/ disgruntled worker kind of thing.

If there were multiple shooters wearing tactical gear that would tend to point to domestic terrorist thing versus ISIS inspired terrorist.

So, if a single shooter then probably a disgruntled worker.

But, as happens in ALL these events the reporting is all over the map so...

For those not listening to the scanner, a shooting at the Amazon in SB. A shooting at a mall and a strange guy outside an elementary school.

Edit: Amazon is clear, mall being evacuated.

Anybody have a chance to see this movie? . . .:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1337057/

I'm always interested in the interaction of media and reality. Does "art" reflect real life as a causal result of real life? Or does it sometimes happen that real life occurs as a result of "art?"

Take the London subway attack, for instance, which occurred some years ago. About a year before the terrorist attempt, the Brit film industry had released a made-for-TV movie entitled "The Dirty Bomb," which seemed similar to and presaged the actual subway attack.

I'm sure Sarah Palin looked pretty shabby after the Tucson shooting. Now, I can imagine a political poster showing Carly Fiorina standing side-by-side with Robert Dear in his orange jump-suit, shouting as in chorus a line from an old chicken commercial: "Parts is parts! Parts is parts!"

Kurt Vonnegut, in "Breakfast of Champions," noted that many Americans behave and pattern their lives after characters they've seen in movies. This was, of course, a satirical sneer, and quite funny.

I still think Edward Snowden got his inspiration for the escapade taking him first to Hong Kong and then Russia after viewing "The Bourne Legacy." But I said that already, in an earlier thread. I seem to be repeating myself.

Ravages of age, I guess.

A police spokeswoman said there was an event scheduled in that building today and that's when/where the shooting took place.

Different gun laws in California than Texas. I believe California has one of the strictest gun laws in the US.

Last I knew, you could only carry unloaded guns...and police could search you without warrant to ensure they're unloaded (you can thank the black panthers for those laws. And Reagan.)

I had heard a stat this morning that the US has not gone more than 8 days without a mass shooting event this year.

yea wasn't there one 2 weeks ago? I swear how can some Americans worry about ISIS and just ignore the mass shootings that happen every 2 weeks in their country?

This from CNN... it's still really early though.

The shootings were in the conference center at the Inland Regional Center, the center's executive director, Lavinia Johnson, told CNN. She believes that a group not affiliated with the center was using the center. According to Johnson, staff are in the process of being bused to a nearby church

That's a pretty horrifying chart when you think about it. That means we have so many gun homicides that killing people by the dozen basically doesn't make a dent.

Because we care more about the rounding error portion (mass shooting victims) than the great horde of urban ghetto residents shooting each other.
