I'm going tomorrow to look at an 08 TSX that is CPO. It has 21,500 on the clock and it is completely loaded including nav. The dealer is asking $22,888. Assuming it checks out OK and I can talk him down a little bit I think I am going to bite. What is the garage's opinion of this vehicle?

I think they're nice drivers, perhaps a little weak on power but the dynamics are great.

They hold their value well, come with a ton of standard features, and are very reliable. It wouldn't meet my needs but I would never tell someone they made a bad choice with a TSX, it's just a good car, IMHO.

+1 to this

A little weak with the 4 banger, but not everyone needs the power of the v6

I'm actually talking one of my friends into buying used one instead of a new Jetta.

it's really a great car, reliable, efficient, loaded, comfortable, etc...

this is still a 1st gen?

well speaking of the 1st gens, the car itslef is just like any honda product out there, no major design flaws, decent car. Power is on par with the eco box cars, which is where it SHOULD belong. I think they are great cars, never a bad choice. I do think they hold their value way better then normal which is good and bad.

Like all cars with new traction control, the traction control system uses the rear brakes, so you will need to replace the rears more then the fronts in many cases. The TSX deep down is a accord. MPG i dont know about, my friend who drives it doesn't care/keep track about it.

GREAT HID system! I like the seat bolsters on that. I really cant complain about the car other then i wish it was in the 250hp range but then MPG will drop.

That sounds like a lot for that car. It's only lost between 3-5 grand in nearly 3 years?

To be negotiated down of course. Fully loaded was around $33ish maybe iirc?

It still used the K series (K24) engine, which powered the Accord as well. It's no speed rocket by any means, but it's enough to get up and go when you need to. If you're expecting to hang with the Lexus or Beamer next to you, expect to have your ass handed to you.

As others have said - it's great car in it's own right, but don't expect to be leaving folks in your dust.

TMV is around 20,000 in my area for a 2008 with Nav and an automatic. CPO is a nice bonus and I'm sure OP could talk them down a couple grand if 22,000 is just the sticker price.

When I shopped around for new 2007 TSX w/ Nav back in 2006, I was able to negotiate down to $ 28.5k, and it was my first negotiate experience (read: me car buying newbie).

Considering I was a newbie negotiator, there were neither major functional difference nor price difference between 2007 and 2008, and 2008 was the last model year for the previous gen, I guess you could have better price than $ 28.5k if you were shopping for new one at that time.

I also quickly checked one local Acura dealer. They have 3 of CPO/1 owner 2008 TSX w/ Nav with about 29k miles on all three and sticker price of $ 21k. I'd definitely try $ 20k or lower if I were shopping.

I plan to offer 19 with the hopes of getting it at 20. This is the first car I will have negotiated myself with a dealer. I am also planning on trading in my 04 mazda6 with 103500 miles, but if he tries to screw me on that I might just walk away. I am already pre approved through a local credit union.

hey OP, i have an 07 which is the same thing except i have the 6mt.
you should be able to get it a bit lower... i'd guess $20k

it's a good car (read: honda accord) like others have said - not a super performer but meets most ppls' needs.
i do wish it had more torque some days, but am enjoying the extra mpg's these days vs my old 6 cyl

let me know if i can be of help~

Just have an idea of what price you want for your car and get him to give you an OTD price on the car without your trade, then you can work that in. You could also take your car down to a used car lot and see what they would offer you. If the dealer offers you lower than that, put that on the table - Joe Blow offered me $XXX cash, I can get him on the phone.

You have all the advantages, especially because the car you're looking to buy isn't super rare, you can always find another one so don't let them pressure you.

HID, resale value, and if its auto would make me buy it.

The 6 speed doesn't justify for how slow it is. G35, entry Bimmer, hell any lexus other than the ES will all smoke it and equal or better its MPG. (well maybe not the infiniti)

I hope that the paint has been improved with the second generation.

I have a 2006 6MT, and it's a great car, EXCEPT for the paint! The hood has so many tiny chips in it (at least 200?) after 80k. I don't tailgate trucks or other cars either. The paint is fading in a few spots as well (garage kept, clay/polish/wax regularly...).

Not sure if this is a color specific problem (I have a red one), but I know that other owners on the TSX forums have moaned about rock chips as well.

2008 is the last model year before the beak. I had a 06 TSX for about 7 month, before I gave into my WRX lust. I still miss my TSX everyday. It's a great car for commute, and still "fun" for the weekend. The power is good enough for everyday driving, but it sure isn't alot for the weight it has. But, the handling is very pliable and still sharp IMO. It's not as tight as my WRX, but it's FAR more comfortable. I bought mine used from a private seller, 18k with 27k mileage with the NAV (kinda crappy). He had the common upgrades for it, Progressive rear sway bar and the Hondata ECU reflash. You can't do the Hondata on a 08 (you'll need a 3rd party ECU, K-pro), but you can certainly get the rear sway bar on it that'll help with the under-steer.

The ECU-flash is well worth it IMO. It smooths out the VTEC engagement, so you'll have more power in the low-end. The fuel economy gets a little worse though, but you'll have much smoother acceleration vs stock.

Someday, I'd like to get the TSX back. It just made too much sense as regular driver.

Great car; we own a 2004. Comes with plenty of features, and looks good inside and out. A little weak on power by comparison, but more than you need. Very reliable as well. Ours has 115k miles on it, and we have yet to have 1 issue with the car. We'll definitely look at a new TSX when it's time to replace it.

Used TSX's are retardedly stubborn on price. They sell very quickly around here. If you're interested a TL could probably be had at close to the same price. I have a 06 TL and highly recommend it.
But even if you overpay a bit, you won't kick yourself later, it's a damn good car (TSX).

Why does it hold value so well? It's a 4 cylinder FWD European Accord

For that $22k, you can buy a brand new economy car. The only thing you lose is the Acura badge, which isn't even that prestigious... It won't get you laid like a BMW propeller.

Well I ended up buying it  They actually didn't budge too much on the price so I ended up paying $22,000 even (got $888 off at least). On the flip side they gave me much more for my trade than I was expecting so that made up for it in my mind. They gave me $3800 for my 04 Mazda6 with 104,000 miles. I am extremely pleased and I take delivery on Saturday. I will post some pics then.

Congratulations! You didn't get a bargain, few do on a TSX. But you'll have a very reliable car that is a very nice ride. Easy on gas too. You'll have no regrets (trust me, that's worth a little extra up front).

I noticed this as well about Honda paint quality. I heard they have cheapened out and since 2000 and now used "eco" friendly paints to please the hippies.

They're thin as hell and a pebble would chip the damn paint.
