Ad Blocker for Chrome ?

Hi,

Is there an Ad Block Plus equivalent for Chrome? I've read there are a few but they don't actually block the ads from downloading, just hide them. I want to try Chrome out but only if it has ABP for it.

Not sure how it works (hide vs block), but I've been using AdBlock for while on Chrome. It works fine for me.

The Adblock Plus team isn't wasting much time. Since announcing their merge with AdThwart, they've updated their Chrome extension with new branding, updated filters, and a few fixes for the most popular ad-blocking extension around.

A question of my own, whats the difference in adblock and adblock plus?

I don't use either. Adblock extensions for Chrome simply don't work very well yet because of Chrome API limitations. Yes, it's getting there but still not in the Firefox league. I love and currently use Admuncher but not everyone would be willing to pay for an adblocker.

However, if I did have to choose one, I'd go with Adblock Plus by Wladimir Palant (the dev of the Firefox version of ABP). I find they both tend to perform essentially the same given Chrome's limitations. But I trust Wladimir Palant more because of his past work with ABP.

That and I grew tired of Adblock's developer's incessant crying for donations at every turn.

Not to mention that ads in flash videos can not be blocked either. Youtube is a partial exception.

+1. ABP for Chrome has been as good as ABP for FF for at least a year.

It was causing some seriously slowdown, but its been fixed within the past few months.

I'm giving ABP another try on my work computer. If it runs decently for a bit, I'll probably be switching my home computer over from Firefox to Chrome.

I'd be confident in saying it's the best adblocker you can get for Windows.

But at the same time, it's quite expensive @ $80 USD for lifetime updates for the Basic package and $110 for Premium filters. Had it not been on sale at the time, there's no way I would have purchased it. I think it was 40% off when I got it.

The cheapest you can get it at (when not on sale) is $20 for the Basic package for 1 year of updates.

I've been using HOSTS since the mid-90s. Blocks everything, regardless of which browser you're using.

Tried PeerBlock yesterday, just cuz I'm a little paranoid sometimes...and yes, they are out to get me.
