Well, let's ask Copilot!

Q: Should Nvidia lower price of products?

Q: Let's pick a conclusion with the limited data available, should Nvidia lower prices?

There we have it, the flops know what's good for them
We all know Jensen tells his engineers to put a backdoor into their server GPUs so that LLMs are inherently trained to repeat Nvidia marketing whenever people ask questions like that.

Are you telling me that they're all running on DLLMSS and making their answers more real than reality itself and warping existence around their output!?!

Does this mean you have to upgrade since nGreedia will pretend that your non-Super card doesn't exist anymore? Newer drivers will also run your card in compatibility mode so you feel it getting slower and slower until you decide to get Super.

What are you even talking about
nGreedia will discontinue production of his 4070 Ti non-SUPER card. That means it will be put on the list of cards primed for earlier end of support. Meaning nGreedia driver writers won't even touch that card anymore. Whatever samples they have, they will chuck them into the bin labelled "used to be good". Even game studios may receive a special memo from Jensen telling them to use SUPER cards for their "recommended specs". 4070 Ti is history. It's an embarrassment that nGreedia would like to forget now. If not, why discontinue it? Why have it replaced with SUPER?

What the hell is this leap in logic. pure unfounded Nvidia hate. AMD and Intel and Nvidia, all of them support whole generations. not sku by sku.

So 3090 is also an embarassment? Just because it's discontinued doesn't mean that a company was embarassed of it.

To sell newer GPUs that offer more perf/$. Why replace 3060 Ti with 4060 Ti? Why replace 3070 Ti with 4070? Why replace 3080 Ti with 4080? 3090 with 4090? I think you know it yourself but some kind of hate is blinding you, maybe?

Nope. Doing it in the same generation with a SUPER means they are expecting existing gamers to ditch their same gen older cards on the used market and upgrade to the SUPER models. And they are expecting a lot of gamers to do that coz a SUPER launch will devalue the older cards pretty quickly in the eyes of 2nd hand buyers. They will literally tell the sellers, oh there's a SUPER now. Why should I pay you this much when I can get a SUPER for that much? It's an old tried and tested nGreedia ploy to extract even more money from their "loyal" customer base by panicking them into selling their old cards and getting the SUPER ones. It's just one more way they screw their customers. They could choose NOT to release the SUPER cards. Unless there is something wrong with the cards being replaced. In which case, their customers with old cards again got screwed.

@igor_kavinski

You're not making much sense. The idea is clearly not that 4000-series buyers will upgrade to a Super, but that they are going to offer better value to people who still have an older gen card.

The claim that driver support will end for the non-Super cards is also total nonsense, if only because it's just a different bin of the same chips. So any optimization for the Super-cards will automatically apply to the non-Supers. There is no code in the drivers that makes them do something different if it is an Ada-architecture card with 10240 Cuda cores of the 4080 Super versus the 9728 cores of the 4080. They just optimize for Ada in general.

That remains to be seen. It would be interesting if the non-SUPER cards can be "upgraded" through hacked firmware flashing of the SUPER ROMs.

The Ti SUPER is what should have been launched originally. Only nGreedia can screw its customers like this after one year. 4070 Ti will look useless especially in VRAM heavy games now. We should ALL unite and never pay full price for another Gefarce card again until nGreedia learns its lesson not to screw with us.

This hasn't been a thing for a long time now, ever since they figured out a way to disable functional silicon on the hardware level, rather than through the ROM. So I guarantee you that this is no more likely than being able to upgrade a 3080 to a 3090, just because they have the same chip.

Igor, put down that bottle man, what are you talking about? My GTX 970 is still supported and runs fine.

New super variants is a sign of progress that is all. Why would existing card owners feel screwed over? Because a new card comes out? Did I not get, what I paid for with my older geforces?

With that logic, I will get a 5000 card one year later and the current super owners will feel screwed over also. It's called progress man. Gpus are always getting devalued. Thank God for that, since newer models/toys arrive all the time. If I wanted progress stagnation and boredom, I would read the bible.

Yeah, I don't imagine anyone with a lick of sense is planning on replacing a 4070 Ti with a 4070 Ti Super. The sole exception to that would be if there was a 4090 Super released that provided a new top end.
They're more likely just getting to the point were most people looking to upgrade in the ~$800 price point and felt the 4070 Ti is a good enough value have already moved on it. Someone who's sitting on a 3080 might have looked at paying another $800 for 20-25% more performance and a couple more GB VRAM and said nah, but maybe 35-40% and moving to 16GB for a 4070 Ti Super if it's in that price range would be tempting.

It's artificial progress. nGreedia could have released 4070 Ti with Super specs at launch. They waited a whole year and made people buy their inferior 4070 Ti that should've been the 4070 and the original 4070 should've been the 4060 Ti. Similarly, the 4060 Ti 16GB should've been the 4060. They really screwed their customers over with this generation.

Hello all, please stay on topic, this thread is for technical discussion of the architecture, not for attacking Nvidia as a business, whether warranted or not. Also, please refrain from using inflammatory language when referring to people. Thanks, AT Moderator Shmee

Does look like that the MSRP of the 4080 Super will be $1199, the 4070 Ti Super $899 and 4070 Super $699. That's assuming that the prices given on the link are including 25% VAT.

Maybe. It could be baloney to make people think its a deal when released next month with "lower" prices. Realistically they should be the same price as the original tiers considering we're half way through this generation of cards.

I think you have to think of it as "LE" products that you are getting instead of a straight price cut. The 4070 Ti should be pretty close to the 4080 and 4070 Super close to the 4070 Ti.

4090D launches. They cut it down 11% and there is no OC support. Same $1599 MSRP.

It's just a China product to circumvent the ban.
