In France/Belgium the FE drops are no longer selling out instantly, so over there the market seems to be slowly saturating and you can just buy them if you track the drops. Germany/Netherlands is very quick still.

Don't know about the US. I do foresee that the 4080 launch can drive up 4090 demand, as people see how bad value the 4080 is.

BTW, Utah dude, waiting for the 7800X3D? Because your CPU is going to turn that 4090 into a 4060.
I was waiting to see what 3D models would be released, but based on the pci scaling reviews that have come out for the 4090 coupled with recent rumors that the 3D models might be limited to 8 cores I no longer feel I need to have 16x 5.0 for the 4090 along with 5.0 for a SSD, I am also maybe willing to settle for the Samsung 990 at pci 4 so I might just wait for the raptor lake KS at 6.0 GHZ.

@utahraptor

The 4090 is PCIe 4, so PCIe 5 is not going to do anything. But even 16x3.0 doesn't seem to cost a significant amount of performance.

And 8 cores should be perfectly fine if it's just about gaming.

Sorry you are right, I meant to say I am resigned to pci 4x8 for the 4090 slot being ok if I go with raptor lake and happen to use a pci 5 ssd.

and happen to use a pci 5 ssd.

Right now there seems to be no significant difference between NVME 3, 4 or 5 in the real world. This might change with DirectStorage, but I doubt that NVME 5 will be targeted by developers any time soon, given how few people are going to have that in the next couple of years.

So I wouldn't worry about that for now.

You can say a lot about nvidias pricing, but as long as they sell everything they put on the market...
they double as a winter electric heater once they begin to smoke. scrummy volatile vapours.

Today I put forth my first "serious" effort to get a 4090 at MSRP using nowinstock. I learned some things. First of all, the browser alert sounds apparently don't get sent to my vmware horizon client while working so that was a wasted effort. I happen to look and missed one drop by minutes. Then I got smarter and used their telegraph app channel to have alerts sent to my phone. I got that notification on my apple watch and I think I had clicked it on my phone within 5 seconds. I think a lot of people or bots did to because newegg lagged and took over 10 seconds to load which felt like a lifetime. I was told apple pay was faster so I used it, but it asked for my newegg password again which I was not expecting and by the time I typed it in I had already missed out. I will keep trying.

I got a MSI Suprim Liquid X 4090 off craiglist for $1920. I would have actually preferred one of the cheaper models, but the price was basically retail + sales tax on this model and far better than scalper prices on ebay/stockx/etc. It's my first ever AIO card. The AIO seems to be only marginally better than the air cooled models, but the card is physically much smaller than the others and also exhausts all the hot air directly out of the case. It has a beautiful appearance too. I'll set it up in the next day or two and plan to just use the adapter for now. The Corsair 16-pin cable is impossible to find in stock and sells at absurd markups on ebay.

The stock tracker apps are a waste of time. I spent a few weeks with them before giving up. By the time you add it to your cart and login/password, it's already gone. I had that happen at least 5 times. If you buy from ebay/etc., ask the seller for a copy of the receipt for warranty purposes.

I set up the card. The AIO took some effort to put in and I had to reseat the CPU cooler to make room for it. The performance in a few initial games I tried (Cyberpunk and Control) is awesome, close to double my old 3090. I would say RT still requires DLSS scaling though, and when unscaled it runs at 65-80fps as opposed to 110-120fps at 2560x1440 scaling or 4K without RT.

The card is basically silent and maxes out at 63C or so but there is fairly noticeable coil whine, both on idle and load. This particular model has many reports of coil whine. I have the PC on the floor though and don't hear it unless I open the side panel. The default power limit is 480W but it hardly ever goes that high and usually stays below 420W or so.

Lots of people report that the coil whine got much less as the card aged a little, so it may get better.

The Quadro will be available soon. ShopBLT has it available for backorder for a cool $7,377.

Interesting...

Not really that impressive.
btarunr should have done a better job than just copy-paste from videocardz, when his collegue tested many RTX 4090 cards.
If you check those charts, then average consumption in 5 games was 347W, so even during gaming It only managed 77% of It's TBP.
After Power limit and UV It got down to 232W, which is 52%.

I translated the original Korean source and Spiderman and Cyberpunk 2077 were done with DLSS3 + RT on. This is what W1zzard measured in his RTX 4090FE review.

Could the dp1.4 have something to with their gsync modules only being dp1.4? And does anyone think there will be a next gen gsync module?

I've been using the 4090 in a few more games. Any non-RT game gets 110-120fps at 4K, and it's pretty efficient and uses only 200-300W in older games, in contrast to the 3090 which always went right up to its 350W limit. It's also the first card that feels truly fluid to me on the Reverb G2 VR headset. The 3090 often involved compromises in VR and many games had to run at a reduced resolution or low/medium settings, but the 4090 generally achieves constant 90fps at full resolution (about 6000x3000). I did run into rendering glitches in a few games though (Overload), which I hope will be fixed in a driver update.

2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.4 and 1.4a though. Maybe 2.0 takes more die space, or maybe they did not want to recreate the display controller and used the same one that was in Ampere, and just ported it to 4nm.

Its not a huge deal right now that they lack DP 2.0. But 1-2 years from now, when all these high res, high refresh displays start to ship that require 2.0, its going to annoy a lot of people that spent a huge amount of money on their cards.
