ok, i've brought this topic up before but didn't really get the discussion i wanted.

It is like this: Ads suck.. period. Nobody wants to see them. Websites rely on ads to fund their existence. Adblock plus kills ads... really, really well.

As people get more tech savvy and word gets around, more and more people will be on adblock plus. What does this mean for sites like anandtech? hell, what does this mean for most of the internet??? Does it mean that advertising will be limited to things like being embedded in videos like the way youtube and revision3 get across ads?
Is there a way to stop something like adblock plus short of banning firefox users? And if not, then WTH??? I'm trying to think 4 years from now where internet advertising will be. i'm an adblock plus user, and honestly, i can never go back unless forced. Even if chrome or opera are better browsers, i won't switch, because they don't have good ad blocking functionality (i'm talking an up-to-date filter list like easylist).

I don't mind text ads or non-moving picture ads, but some websites have stuff plastered all over the place and flashing ads galore. The NYTimes for instance used to (don't know if they still do) have tons of flash ads on the page that would slow my browser to a crawl while just trying to scroll through an article.

Success would be more stealth ads, much like product placement in programming.

You'll be reading an article and the writers will throw out recommendations for different products.

Oh, I really love vB, by the way, it's working really fast and has all the features I want.

Ching, ching! $$$

You do realize that most other browsers other then firefox have their own version of ad block?

Heck even IE has one last I checked so they can't very well block all browsers.

Just because they have something smiler, doesn't mean it works as good.

In a big field, a mouse wearing a flashing neon vest will get spotted very easily by a passing hawk.

Similarly, irritating ads serve their parent adservers, and the site which hosts them, by gaining sufficient attention to warrant a wildcard addition to my adblocking filter list.
Hold your head up too high and it'll get cut off.

And then there are some adservers which get the red-carpet treatment - all the way to my hosts file.

I like admuncher. I haven't found much that gets around it.
Sites I like , like this one I put on the white list to show ads so they still get the revenue.

Works on all browsers with a single install.
