I all ready have an EVGA 8800GTS(G80) 320MB, I was looking at getting a newer vid card ( a G92) but just happened to notice that the same card I have is really low priced now.
Which would be better, two of the older GTS or one of the new GT cards?

Thanks

Tough call, IMO. Personally, I'd keep the single 320MB card and wait for new cards due out later this year. I imagine the only game you could be having trouble with is Crysis, and neither option is going to help significantly.

I say buy a 8800 GTS 640MB and sli i think you can get hacked sli drivers for 8800GTS 320 and 640 SLi am not too sure.

Getting a 640MB card to pair up with a 320MB is a bad call, they will both run at the settings of the lower card. 640MB cards are about the worst investment possible today in GPUs, they are ridiculously overpriced for their performance.

Two suggestions.

1) Sell your 8800GTS 320MB while there is still value left in it (preferably to someone who doesn't know what it is worth) and buy either an 8800GT (~$160) or an 8800GTS 512MB (~$220).

2) Stick with your 8800GTS 320MB and wait for the next generation of cards due out sometime later this year. Disadvantage here is your card will continue to drop in value and more people will know it's not worth much the longer you wait.

I don't see good performance in running two 8800 GTS 320 in SLI, because they will use only 320 mb of memory and current games tend to go beyond that value. I would just use that card a bit more to see what Nvidia or ATI will launch next.

stick with the gts until the next gen cards come out since the gt / gts are not significant enough to make it worthwhile unless you can sell the gts (but i dont think you can get too much for it). like bamacre said, the only game you re liekly to have any real trouble running at higher settings would be crysis. SLI also has quite a bit of issues IMO, and the driver support isnt so hot (for either single or dual cards for the 8 series), especially since the "9 series" is out.

Yes, getting a 640 GTS isn't going to help with a 320GTS where memory size is a factor, like Crysis. Two 640GTS's would kill a 8800GT512/GTS512. It also depends on what power supply you have as well. Is it strong enough to run two G80's?
A single 8800GT/GTS is faster than a single 8800GTS 320/640 in most situations, but like I said, two 8800GTS 640's would win out easily over a single 8800GT512/GTS512. I know. I tried it here.

But he owns a 320 already, so it'd be silly to go 2x640... he'd be paying almost $400 for a setup that is beaten by sli setups he could get for $250-350.

Honestly, with all the disadvantages of the old g80 gts' I'd avoid buying them like the plague. Even @ $110-120 (what Im seeing 320's at), you're close to a 9600gt or you can get an 8800gs @ that, which are comparable or better performance in most scenarios at much less heat and power draw.

Two 320s vs a single 512 gts would probably be give and take. I'd guess the 320's would average a little better... but at much higher power, much higher heat, much lower likely resale value, no chance of improvement (you could still SLI the 512 card later).

If ya can get a 320 for <$75 AND the power and heat are no problem for you, then I'd consider it... but I'd still probably go with the 512.

I would agree with this. The gain of a G92 over a G80 isn't worth the ~$200, (or ~$100 if you resell your G80).

I would hold onto it until whatever is next finally comes out.
