Wow thanks dealster!! NetCaptor is definately a great find

So many cool options, especially the tabs and group bookmarking (captorgroups) which make me wonder why this isn't already built into most browsers.

Thanks Fritzo,

Fritzo Wrote...
All you need to do is click the Search button on the toolbar, click the Customize button, click the Autosearch settings button, and select "Google Sites" from the first drop down menu, and "Just display settings in main window" on the second menu.

That works great for me!

I've been using Nutshell
for the last six months and it is a fantastic freebie addon for the toolbar.
It defaults to google..but it also has a drop down dictionary ,google search of this site,
imdb and daypop. Check it out.
It is a GREAT time saver.

You can also do this with the default search thing built into IE (may be XP specific). Just hit Search then Change Prefences/Change Internet Search behavior then pick Google (or whatever) as your default search engine.

Yeah but the whole point is that google is not on that list, you can only choose:

Yahoo
Lycos
Encarta
MSN Search
Overture
Euroseek
altavista
NetGuide
Look Smart
Yack
Excite
AOL Search
Switchboard
InfoSpace
BIgfoot
Worldpages

unless you add the reg key. I wonder why google isn't on the list.

But Google IS on the list! That is why I said (may be XP specific). I am looking at it right now. I wouldn't post on something that I think is true (unless I said I thought so ). In fact, Google is my default search engine using IE's built in Search feature.

Sounds decent. Its only 70k too. There's no spyware or anything that credits someone with the clicks, or anything like that in it is there?

Devistater:

No, I checked it with ad-aware

Gmetech:

<<When you do searches using the Amazon item in the toolbar, Nutshell sends along an Amazon
Associate ID. That Associate ID belongs to Nutshell. You pay nothing extra for sending that ID, and Nutshell receives a small percentage>>

I hope you're not saying there's anything wrong with an affiliate link to Amazon? :Q

It took me a while to figure oot what the heck you were asking.. but yes, I have the answer.

In the Quick Search Deskbar folder, you'd edit the file "preferences.js". This is the section that controls
the behavior of that button:

/* Show the menu '>>' popup button?
* 0 = never
* 1 = always
* 2 = if search bar width is greater than clocklongwidth (default)
*/
showbutton = 2;

The lines after the commented out sections (with * and / ) are the actual settings and on this
section you'll change that line to say showbutton = 1;

If you look around in that file with notepad or another text editor, you'll see other settings that
can be changed. Note: The settings for changing the search box color, etc. is also in that file,
but you'll have to add some settings yourself.

I'd recommend making a copy of the file, renaming the original as a backup. The docs mention using
"localprefs.js" instead (a renamed copy of preferences.js), so a later upgrade won't overwrite your
settings, but the version 3.0 beta I'm using now does appearance preferences differently (moved
from preferences.js to a .css file), so the preferences files aren't the same between versions anyway.

After making changes, typing " ! " in the search window reloads the preferences file.

From the site's Quick FAQ:

Nutshell is cool, how much does it cost?
Bah. Nutshell, like everything else I write, is free. When you do searches using the Amazon item in the toolbar, Nutshell sends along an Amazon
Associate ID. That Associate ID belongs to Nutshell. You pay nothing extra for sending that ID, and Nutshell receives a small percentage
of whatever you buy on that visit. You can read more about Amazon Associates here.
