Add memory to geforce3 TI-500

I just found out that the geforce3 card is designed for 128MB DDR. Does anyone know what the affect of replacing the stock 64MB DDR on the Geforce3 TI series with 128MB would be? Obtaining the chips wouldnt be too difficult and I know people who would be willing to do a professional job at soldering them on. All I need to know is if the upgrade in memory could damage the card or if I would need to modify the detonator driver in order to have the computer recognise the upgraded memory.

you'll prolly need to design a custom bios and you'll have to do a VERY nice job of getting good memorychips, I dunno how picky nVidia cards are on ramchip-replacements but you'll have plenty of work on it and will potentially destroy yer card, only do this when u got too much cash and want bragging rights of a 128MB card (cous much performance wont be gained ...)

Unfortunately you would probably make that expensive card nonfunctional. It would be more feasable to remove the memory on the card and upgrade it to a faster technology. Such as a memory which is rated for a higher clockspeed. The bios onboard would probably be the biggest problem. When the manufacturer gets the reference bios form nvidia they custom tailor it to their specifications. Leaving out any of the modifications that they made to the card to enable it to use the higher density memory, you would need to compile a new bios.
