Add Remove Programs problem

Running XP Home. When I open the Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs, of the 61 programs that appear there only 13 have the "Remove" Tab. Some, for instance Quicktime do not have uninstall capabilities in the program. The rest only show "Used" and "Last used On". What could have happened and is there a way to restore the "Remove" option tab?

Go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/. Install their Anti-Malware software. Allow it to update, then scan and remove what it finds. This sounds typical of an infection of some sort.

The software is free!

Yes it does.
Thanks for the link boomer, I saved it to favorites. I could have used it myself last week and looked for something similar with no luck, one I did find had to be removed along with the malware for it had no uninstall! I ended up manually removing the files, what a chore!

i have the same issue with one user in the field, scans are clean though.

I ran an updated Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything.

Try windows update.
edit- and restore

second edit, sorry, "System Restore"

HeyWoodbutcher, It looks like I require a little shove in the right direction. I don't seem to be able to find "edit" and "restore" in windows update. I hope that you will be patient.

System Restore was what I referred to, "edit" is simply that I edited my previous post!
XP IIRC is start> accessories> system tools> system restore. If you have it turned on
