'Weakness' is refusing to try to understand something and instead giving things nice comfortable one-word labels.

Precisely, but this mindset can only come with age and struggle. Some deal with reality at a young age due to a number of circumstances. Others simply don't get it until they're older (there's a reason that mid-life crises occur).

None of those are particularly difficult to quit. Maybe alcohol to an alcoholic, but I can't relate to that. All the others are trivial to quit.

Sorry, but those are the only experiences I have. I don't have any experience with prescription drugs or illicit hard drugs. It was my understanding you can become addicted to anything. Gambling for instance; another thing I have tried quite liberally, but never had a problem with.

A lot of that stuff(gambling, gaming, sex?...) is more psychological, than real, and it takes a certain kind of person to get addicted. Other things, tobacco, cocaine, opiates... are more physically based, though there is a psychological component also. I'm not sure where alcohol falls in that spectrum. I've never been a huge fan, so I can't relate. Any more than a little bit is unpleasant to me, so even if it were highly additive physically, I've never given it that chance.

Fair enough. I guess it's just hard for me to fully comprehend withuot fully experiencing it and hopefully I never will. I thought for sure I would get addicted to alcohol at some point, but I never did.

NYE is a toughie, eh?

not at all

I'm hanging out with my son and my nephew, drinking some ice cold Diet Pepsi. By the Grace of God, I'm over the drinking thing.

Someone asked for a dedicated addiction thread, so I made this one.

Addiction would be a fabulous concept if people said, "I'm addicted and need help," instead of, "I can't help it, I'm addicted."

I'd say that alcohol and most mood altering drugs are a combination of physiological and psychological (mostly emotionally based) factors.

People who drink often generally start to do so because of it's numbing effect. It takes little more than a few drinks to start feeling a disconnect from the world around you. From there, one drink a day becomes 2 or 3, then 5 or 6 and so on, until the person is no longer medicating an emotional need, but rather trying to feel "normal" by changing their physiological state.

I'd have to say that addiction to other major drugs occurs for similar reasons. Emotional need or desire to "get away from it all" turns into physical addiction.

It's a vicious cycle that I can say I'm grateful to have never fallen into, but I have loved ones who have. It was very tough to watch, and I'm sure damn near impossible for them to deal with personally. But they did.

To all those who truly struggle with addiction, you're in my thoughts and prayers. Keep fighting. There's so much more out there than this.

You claimed that you were only a pot smoker. Were you lying?
Marijuana isn't "addicting," but users can have a psychological dependence.

Pot was among the other drugs i took. Mostly pure molly and opiates (never at the same time, obviously)

I also did more research then you could every imagine before i ever took a dose. I know way too much information on price/information/sideeffects etc of drugs

erowid.com is my source.

behavior matters. the failed concept of recreational intoxication continues to result in mass addiction. If you desire to intoxicate you have a problem.

I don't believe I've ever done that stuff.

clearly the best drug I've ever done. Makes the party amazing and lets you fuck like bunny's for hours. It was not an every day thing but i would take the opiates monday-friday and take the molly at raves on the weekends.
I was like this since January 2? of 2010. I cleaned up my act in the beginning of November.

because I can see through your lies. Do you really want to do this? Because I'm game.

I've been CLEAN AND SOBER since 3-1-8. I've been through more treatment programs, drug and alcohol counseling, court supervision and AA than you could ever imagine.

You've sat here and said that you were drinking while in in-house treatment. no treatment center, addict or drunk would ever tell you to use a mind altering substance while trying to get clean or sober

You sat here and said that you go to 4 hour NA meetings no such thing

If you really were in NA, you would be working the steps. I think its time I take your inventory since you are unwilling.

1. you did a decent job on step 1
2. never heard you mention any higher power...tough to work the rest of the steps if you can't get past this one.
3. you are still out partying, so no changes to your life or will....
4. obviously you never made it to this one since I'm having to do it for you
5. can't do this one if you never even started 4...
6. again, you won't even admit your defects, let alone ask for them to be removed
7. see 6
8. aahh hell...no point in even going on.

So your expensive, in-house treatment and rigorous NA attendance got you through step 1. Most people get through that step before they even set foot in a meeting. Yet you sit here and act like you are an expert on the subject. You are not. You are a liar and not a good one.

so you disagree with what i say? ok thats fine but why be so rude about it,(i see your username fits) Your not in Highschool anymore theres no need for bullying.

I went to a 30 day program with meetings from 9-4. There was NA mixed in but it wasn't all day thing. It was 2-1 hour meetings a day and the rest was group and individual therapy. I still go to 2 to 4(or when ever i feel like getting high) 1 hour meetings a week on my own with my free will. I have a sponsor who is a family friend and has been clean since 1994.

If you dont mind me asking what was your DOC? how did you become addicted? your age at the time of addiction? your age now?

this is too good...

Does your sponsor know that you partied too hard last night and are hungover. Are you actually working the steps?

I am a drunk. The rest of your questions have no answers since they make no sense.
