Adding 2nd hdd to CentOS

It's been years since I've messed with *Nix much, so this is probably a basic question. Howto's vary so I'm going to post this here.

I have a virtual machine on vmWare running CentOS. I added a 2nd virtual hdd (SCSI 0:1) to the vm.

I want to permamount the drive as /data (will be volume for mySQL DB's)

I believe I have two steps.. Format disk, and add to fstab..

What would be the commands to do this?

fdisk /dev/sdb
   n, p, 1, <enter>, <enter>, w
mkfs.ext# /dev/sdb1
cp -a /etc/fstab{,.bak}
vim /etc/fstab

#insert into fstab
/dev/sdb1            /data         ext#       defaults     1 2 

mount -a

Drive might not be sdb... ext# can be ext 2,3, or 4... Or another file system if you like. This also won't work if you are dealing with a terrabyte drive... You'll need to use parted instead of fdisk... This should get you where you need to go though.
