I just upped to vista 64 bit.

i also just upped to 4gigs of ram.

2gb x 2 slots.

my problem is.. when all 4 gigs are installed.. vista goes crazy with the sound not working and hissing, and the video artifacting all over the place during normal functions, eventually if you try to adjust the video and/or sound the pc will freeze up and either BSOD or restart.

if I take out one of the sticks.. it doesn't matter which one, or which slot its in.. everything works perfect..

any ideas?

I did, memory is fine.

i ran memtest after the first time it blue screened. the memory works fine, as long as ONLY 1 of the sticks are in.. keeping it at 2gigs.. it only screws up when i try it with 4..

I'm reading there is an issue with vista 64 bit when trying to run it with 4gigs of ram. Microsoft released a patch to fix it.. so gonna try to download that.

Make sure your RAM is set up correctly in your BIOS. First set everything to auto, but set the voltage of your RAM to the spec from the manufacturer. You can set the timing manually if you want, check the specs of the RAM and set the timing to that.

If you've overclocked you likely need to lower it a bit.

Seeing how you mention video i would just try another version of video driver, as they can cause BSOD esp, so just check that out, otherwise your memory might be faulty, but seeing how you passed memtest is strange, what else causes this to happen? and its possibly your memory not able to allocate correctly as well, just check the drivers first though if i were you

Did you ever install the patch? It's most likely your problem. If you did install the patch, you most likely just need more Vdimm (RAM voltage).
