Adding USB support to a 2 year old computer

I was wondering if it is possible to add USB support to my computer, it's about 2 years old.. And if it is, what needs to be done

I run a D-Link USB PCI card in one of my test rigs. Supported by Windows and many recent Linux distros.

what os are you using?

win 95 it can be difficult, no -true- USB support, 98/me/2k should work fine

and yeah, I think a PCI card with 2 USB ports on it is like $20 or less

Thanks - it's really cool, I was not even aware that these cards existed (not that I have been looking for a while, but still)

I am running win 98SE, planning to upgrade to win2k as soon as I have some time .

Which card would you recommend, they seem to have ADS and D-link at roughly the same price...

I believe D-Link has a little better support. Should auto detect in Windows and prompt you for the CD. On this particular test rig, I just did a clean install of Win 98 and it was fine.

do yourself a favor and avoid the Via chipset for USB like the plague! You will be able to use low throughput items like mice and keyboards, but when it comes to moving data (eg digital camera or scanner), the via USB chipset often fails miserably. Get a card with either a lucent or opti chipset. i have a Belkin f5u005 2-port USB card which I bought for $28 at microcenter (opti chipset). worth the extra few dollars!
