adelphia in southern california(possibly everywhere) has a program called the dish buy-back program. if you order new cable service and are willing to give them a dish, receiver, and card, they will give you basic cable for $9.95/month for an entire year. normal price is around $40/month, so if you were looking to get cable anyway and have a spare satellite setup you dont mind giving up this is a very hot deal for you.

LOL. What does Adelphia do with all of the dishes and cards? Ebay?

How do you think they provide you with cable for $9.95 a month? They use your dish to pick up the signal with a hacked card.

Presuming they don't really sell the turned in reicievers on Ebay, it's good news for everyone with old Dish hardware in the basement - those prices on EBay will go up a couple bucks. I've got a PVR501 which should be worth an extra $25 now that Dish is going to charge monthly for the new PVRs and two other miscellaneous recievers which should be worth shipping and a couple bucks to an Adelphia subscriber! If only I didn't spend every penny I dream of on Hot Deals here.....

I wonder if they still give you discount if you get both their interent service and cable tv service with this deal.

not that i've found. my neighbor was calling to order cable and asked of any promos and they told him about it. i assume any rep answering the phone should know about it.

I just talked to a rep and she said that program was almost a year ago. It was because Cross Country Satellite closed business and were referring their customer over to Adelphia and would be able to get that promotion.

Is anyone else having any luck? Is there a promotion code available?

I just got Dish's Top 100 (wifey needs animal planet )...

If anyone has advice on this and way to make my dollar go farther pm me.

I get 3 months free with hbo and cinemax, no install fees and the dish 500. I am hoping for the 'grandfathered' box that won't have pvr type fees.

I would also like to hook it up to my pc without having to pay the extra 50% charge a month (only one set will be viewed at a time I could see if I wanted two sets of independent viewing, but that's not my case).

Thanks

I have Adelphia (cable/broadband) in PA and they're bunch of incompetent a**holes.

I am doing a similar "Buy Back Dish Program" for new or upgrade customers. It is $20 a month for 12 months a total of $240 which isn't a bad deal if I didn't have to fight them every step of the way.

1) Call your local branch (the number may not be the 1-800 number on the front of your bill) because if you have a problem you have to deal with them. Their CSR are poorly trained and most don't even know what programs are running, so keep trying until you find someone who is knowable and willing to help you.

2) Make sure that the Service Technician has the proper paperwork because he still may take your dish but you have an uphill battle to prove it (which happen to me but my branch couldn't find the whole "Buy Back Dish Program" file for all customer anyway).

3) And remember to write down CSR/Service Technician names, number, time and dates. (Each month I have to call and remind them to credit the $20 to my account).

BTW if Service Technician is late you maybe able save another $20 depending on you local program.

funny thing about adelphia cable. they have a massive amount of debt and are in chapter 11 and the have the highest rates in the industry. WTF, Don't they know how to run a business? Even their employees, which i've talked to, agree that their prices are high and their business has be struggling the last few years. I company that holds on to their pricing structure when rates in the industry have falling will always fail. Adelphia might as well throw in the towel if thier not going to reduce their prices.

Ohh, and one more thing. Adelphia CS bites big time. they wouldn't know their ass from an hole in the ground.
