Fantastic news, congrats. Remember that cancer is NEVER a death sentence and just keep fighting and enjoying your extra time.
No matter how dire the diagnosis, some of those receiving it will beat the odds and survive. No matter how great the diagnosis, some of those receiving it will beat the odds and die. Diagnoses are estimates of statistical results, but a 99% chance of dying within three months is a 1% chance of not dying within three months.Never is a fairly strong word. Hope is a truly wonderful thing, and I honestly believe it can lead to improved outcomes in some individuals; but false hope can be very damaging.

No false hopes here, just the hope that I am on the very end of the bell curve on this medication & that they have a new drug ready when I need it. Somebody has to be an outlier, why not me?
Had infusion number 14 on Friday, got a new chemo nurse, his name is George, he seems nice, hopefully he has a sense of humor. Glad to have a regular nurse again, it makes treatment less lonely have somebody who gets to know you.
Btw, I plan on probably eating an entire sweet potato pie after work on Thanksgiving
Just a quick update! I went for my third CT scan since starting Opdivo, first scan almost 60% shrinkage, second scan stable with one tumor increased by 1mm, third scan, shrinkage again! Including the tumor that had increased on the second scan. All remaining tumors are under 1 centimeter in size!
Liver, spleen, pancreas, adrenals & kidneys clear, all nodes in the middle of the chest clear.
My Oncologist is THRILLED! Said this was the response they hoped that every patient would get from this drug. For me, the best part is that it feels like my immune system is learning, it can find cancer cells and kill them! I am a responder who has tumor pain as the immune system works. Am still having pain under my arms and welcome that pain! Die bastages, die!
I will see another Thanksgiving, I will have another Christmas and best gift of all is that my scan schedule will now be after three tx cycles instead of just two! Having more shrinkage after being so sick with pneumonia is such a gift! I was steeling myself for at best a mixed scan and instead got great news!
There was dancing at MGH yesterday! Dancing!
Awesome news. I've seen the Opdivo ads on TV now so must be mainstream now and out of trials?
That's the spirit. Even with Stage 4 cancer, there are always a few people who survive, and you can bet they aren't the ones who put their affairs in order and curled up waiting to die. Maybe it's being cured and cancer-free five years later, maybe it's just five years fighting the disease rather than dying, but hell, none of us are getting out of here alive anyway. As long as life is worth living, it's worth fighting for no matter the estimated odds. Even if doctors tell you it's one in a million, there's only one of you so that's all you need.No false hopes here, just the hope that I am on the very end of the bell curve on this medication & that they have a new drug ready when I need it. Well, it looks like Opdivo Santa has stolen my thyroid! I haven't been feeling well, blood pressure and heart rate all over the place. Cardiologist ran thyroid tests and mine came back at 58.9!
They are starting me on Synthroid, switch my beta blocker to Nadolol ( evil stuff) and I go in for Opdivo infusion number 16 today. Pray for me please, my tumor burden is low,, I would like to feel better for Christmas and be able to go back to work.
