Just a quick update! I have had three infusions of the new Immunotherapy drug Opdivo, my cancerous neck nodes are almost gone. I will have another tx and a scan in a couple weeks to see if my insides are having a similar response.

I can tell you that I feel stronger and more myself with each passing day. I go to work and try to enjoy my life. Praying for a good internal response & that this drug works for me for a long time.

Aside from some GERD which has troubled me in the past and is now being treated, my biggest side effects are manageable fatigue and bouts of sharp tumor pain. I am grateful for this treatment and the quality time it is giving me.

There can be some scary side effects with Opdivo but I have to tell you the side effect list for traditional chemo is pretty scary too. Besides, my Oncologist at MGH reassured me that they tested this drug extensively at MGH and are experienced at treating immuno related issues.

I just worked two full weeks without missing a shift, my energy level is coming back and I don't feel as gravely ill as I had started to feel in Feb. Crossing my fingers and hoping for a good scan in a couple weeks!

We had a huge cat named Resident Evil for awhile. He moved onto our porch, and he was evil. Had a thing for reaching out and grabbing you with his claws, and he had bizarre paws with two extra toes but with space for two toes between them and the rest, so his first and last claws were 180 apart. Therefore when he sank claws into your skin, you had to work them out while he was biting your hand.

Other than that he was a pretty good tomcat, but can't say I missed him when he left. I like to think he found a home rather than hooked his claws into someone who beat him to a pulp.

Just wanted to update you all. After four infusions of Opdivo I had a CT scan with contrast. EVERY tumor shrank! Some substantially, the big tumor in my neck went from 22mm down to 8mm.

Opdivo is not a side effect free paradise but I work my normal schedule and am trying to get more active at home. ( my cancer left me rather deconditoned so doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom and taking out a bag of trash feels like a victory)

Praying for continued shrinkage and mighty glad to still be alive today

That is awesome news. Since I lost my mother to cancer in May ever little victory I hear about cancer feels like a victory for me as well.
