adobe acrobat

My school sells a student version of acrobat 8... for pretty cheap. Do y'all know when the new version comes out?

I haven't heard the rumors, though they seem to launch things (photoshop, lightroom, camera raw, etc.) a lot on February 19th or in mid-April.

I don't know how much correlation that has with their other products, though since they're sort of product "Suite" oriented with a lot of things (less so with Acrobat) I'd think they'd announce updates mostly all at once.

I'd suspect they'll either do it by the start of May or maybe not at all in 2008.

There's been some rumor about a new Photoshop possibly coming out sooner than expected, probably because they dropped the ball badly on 64 bit support for CS3.

Acrobat? I'm no expert but I can't think of much reason why they'd be making major changes to it this year .... I guess PDF got standardized as an international standard recently... so I suppose there could be some minor updates in relation to that and 64 bit platforms.

Try asking on a more desktop publishing / Macintosh / Adobe oriented board for people with more access to good rumors.

What are you using Acrobat for? Just generating simple PDFs, or does it get more complex than that? Other than some interface refreshes and updated plug-in compatibility with the latest version of Office, most of the new features in Acrobat relate to PDF forms, security and collaboration capabilities (when used in conjunction with Adobe's server products). These are generally enterprise features that casual users won't really be concerned with.

I usually just generate PDFs, but a Pro version for 85 dollars is just too good to pass up...

Take a look at Nitro PDF Pro - I dumped Acrobat 8 for it last year and never looked back. It has the Office 2007 GUI, and does not require reactivation everytime you change HDDs. (That's why I dumped Adobe.)

Nitro seems nice for it's low cost. But I didn't see anything on their website
as to product updates / upgrades. Nothing about if they are free or cost.
And that program will not yet work with Vista. PDF Converter Pro from Nuance
is only a few dollars more and can work with Vista as well as XP
I think Nuance give updates within the same Version. Some amout of charge
for a major version change (say from V5 to V6) .. Version 5 just came out

It does include updates. And it does work in Vista. I have it in both XP and Vista. In any case, either one is better than Acrobat these days. Especially if you change HDDs regularly (backup becomes main - etc.)

The web site for Nitro does not mention Vista compatability.
Perhaps, they should update it since you are saying it will work with Vista.

It doesn't really say which OS .. just which versions of Office it will be
able to integrate with (like Acrobat) .. I know the newest PDF Converter Pro 5
should be able to work with the latest version of Office.
